Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club

Palm Desert, California, USACoachella Valley

Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Palm Desert offers a compelling 27-hole desert golf experience, merging rugged terrain with versatile course design. Featuring the Stadium and Arnold Palmer courses, it balances challenge and playability against scenic desert landscapes.

Course Overview

Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club offers an engaging desert golf experience situated in Palm Desert, California. This 27-hole layout is split between the Stadium and Arnold Palmer courses, each presenting distinct challenges framed by the region’s dramatic terrain. The courses weave through arid desert landscapes punctuated by rugged rock formations, strategically placed bunkers, and native grasses. Shades of sagebrush and desert wildflowers ripple across the fairways, creating an environment that demands tactical shot-making and careful course management.

The Stadium Course is known for its wide fairways and visually arresting elevation changes, rewarding players who place their drives with precision. The Arnold Palmer Course, with its tighter corridors and more intricate green complexes, offers a contrasting test that emphasizes accuracy and finesse. Together, these courses combine to deliver a versatile round suited to a wide range of skill levels. While both courses challenge experienced players, the thoughtful design ensures approachability for mid to high handicappers, who will find generous landing zones and forgiving turf.

The desert setting introduces natural elements that influence play, from desert winds that adjust ball flight to sun-baked surfaces that promote fast conditions on the greens. Water hazards, though sparing in number, are strategically positioned to add risk-reward decisions on select holes. The undulating greens vary in speed and slope, requiring keen attention to putting lines and pace.

Marriott's Shadow Ridge is a public resort facility that serves guests and local golfers alike, offering a relaxed atmosphere with ample practice areas, including a driving range and short game facilities. The clubhouse provides modern amenities, including dining options with view terraces overlooking stretches of the course. Golfers planning a visit should bring adequate sun protection and comfortable footwear, especially for walking the natural desert terrain.

This course blends memorable visuals with varied playability, making it a compelling destination for golf travelers seeking a desert test south of Palm Springs. Whether tackling 9, 18, or all 27 holes, Marriott's Shadow Ridge presents challenging golf with the desert as both backdrop and antagonist.

Course Highlights

The course's dual-layout model showcases contrasting styles: the Stadium Course offers elevated tees and broad corridors, while the Arnold Palmer Course demands precision through narrower fairways and intricately shaped greens. Desert rock formations frame several holes, integrating natural ruggedness into play. The greens vary considerably in speed and contour, revealing subtle breaks that test putting skill.

Checked in yesterday. Facility is nice and well maintained. Big problem with the room - not as advertised and promoted. Requested and granted a golf course view. Our window looks directly at another building. From the patio we see bushes instead of the golf course. If we step off the patio into the yard, we get a small view of the golf course. I called the desk, waited on hold for ten minutes, and they said, “There is nothing we can do.” Not impressed!

More like a hotel than a resort. It used to be for Vacation Club owners, but now it's overrun by people that don't know how to behave, and they don't enforce policies. In one day, there was an assault on a woman, a purse stolen at the pool, people with glass champagne bottles at the pool, and elevators that don't work. At a different pool, there was glass in the pool. They also force you to get out of the pool every two hours to hydrate and take your children to the bathroom. Ice and water machines are temperamental and their pins colada at the bar don't resemble anything like one. All artificial flavor slush. In addition, there is a sign telling people with active diarrhea (up to 14 days before) to stay out of the pool. Obviously, they've had problems before. Never coming back.

This course is imminently fun and fair. Really great greens and the fairways were in good shape. Great flow to the golf course and the green complexes are amazing. Do not get in the wrong section of the green! This is a 4.5 star course, but I can't give the extra half. Staff was so friendly. I was glad the course was empty since I was able to play quickly, but it was also sad to see. I will definitely play here again.

We really enjoy this resort. First time playing the course and found it very playable. The area is clean and we were very happy with our room. It is nice to have so many amenities to do at the resort as well. I would return the next time I visit the area.

Great overnight friend trip. Very friendly staff. Clean and well maintained room. Grounds were gorgeous. Pools were sparkling clear. And you didn't have to wear your mask in the pool area even if you got up unless you were getting food.
