Course Overview

Located just outside Charleston in Summerville, South Carolina, Legend Oaks Golf Club offers an 18-hole layout designed to engage golfers across skill levels with its blend of strategic routing and natural challenges. This public facility unfolds through gently rolling terrain shaped by mature trees, water hazards, and well-placed bunkers. The course’s parkland style emphasizes maneuvering and accuracy over brute length, providing a compelling test that favors thoughtful shot selection and course management.

The routing weaves thoughtfully between pockets of woods and waterways, ensuring that water is consistently in play on several holes without overwhelming the pace or flow of the round. Fairways are generally generous but narrow enough to keep players on their toes, while the greens present subtle contours that invite precision putting. Players will find a balanced challenge that rewards both conservative approaches and calculated risk-taking.

Legend Oaks maintains a landscape punctuated with water features that punctuate holes around the front and back nines, creating engaging sightlines and forcing strategic decisions. The bunkers guarding key landing zones and greens serve both a tactical and visual role, shaping how golfers approach each shot. Though the course has had periods of maintenance challenges, recent upgrades have focused on tee boxes and bunker conditions, aiming to restore the course’s original playability and character.

The clubhouse offers customary amenities including a pro shop and casual dining, making it a comfortable setting for golfers before and after their rounds. With carts equipped with GPS, navigation is straightforward, though some uneven terrain suggests that those who prefer to walk should prepare for a moderate workout with sturdy shoes.

Ideal for those seeking a challenging yet accessible golf experience near Charleston, Legend Oaks suits players who appreciate a thoughtfully designed parkland course that demands strategic thinking. Greens are in great shape, and the guys are doing pretty good with maintaining tee boxes. Beautiful course with a lot of "water in play" situations. The bunks are in amazing shape too! Definitely on my list to return to this course when I'm back in the area!

I played with my daughter in a parent child outing this weekend sponsored by the club and had a great time. The meal after was good. It was great to see a club block some time for kids and parents to play together on a weekend afternoon. The pace of play was fair for this type of outing and the staff running the event was very welcoming. I would highly recommend this venue for golf events. The condition of the course was not as good as I have seen it in the past but I am sure the dry conditions have a lot to do with that.

Very poor experience. We haven't played this course in over a year, and now I remember why we stopped playing here. We were a threesome initially grouped behind a foursome of teenage boys. Apparently, the boys didn't pay before getting ready to tee of, so they had to go back to the pro shop to pay. By the time the fairway was clear for us to tee off, the boys pulled up behind us making a huge racket. We played from the blue tees and played quickly, but the boys played from the women's tees and kept hitting into us on the fairways and greens despite the fact that we had a foursome in front of us that we were waiting on. We informed the ranger about this, but all he did was talk to the group, which did nothing to make the situation better. The final straw came in the 13th hole, when one of the boys purposely crashed their cart into a large tree while we were putting. I immediately called the pro shop to report this and was told someone would be coming out to talk to the boys. While waiting for the group in front of us on the 15th fairway, the boys raced ahead of our group and left the course. Not sure if someone kicked them off or if they left on their own, but our round was already ruined. None of us enjoyed our round and we will never go back to this course. Customers should not have to deal with this nonsense on a respectable golf course. Apparently, this is no longer a respectable golf course. Avoid at all costs!

Legend Oaks Golf Club – Charleston, SC ★★☆☆☆ (2 out of 5) Legend Oaks has the bones of a good golf course with a nice layout and playable design, but unfortunately, the overall experience fell short. Course Conditions: The layout itself is enjoyable, but the greens were badly burnt out—something that could easily be addressed with better maintenance. As a suggestion, reducing the square footage of the greens and focusing more on quality could go a long way. Also, it’s baffling that they placed the pins right in the middle of the most damaged areas. The cart paths are also in rough shape and need serious repair. Golf Carts: While the GPS carts helped us get around, the tires were completely bald—slipping on dry grass is not something you expect on a summer day in Charleston. Definitely overdue for an upgrade. GPS Policy: The GPS system restricts carts to 50 yards from all greens. For senior golfers, this is not ideal. When you combine that with uneven terrain and the inability to bring a sand can or carry multiple clubs, it really takes away from the short game experience. It’s hard to keep good turf when golfers can’t repair divots or play efficiently. Atmosphere & Staff: The course atmosphere didn’t feel welcoming. The pro shop attendant asked me to change into a collared shirt—no problem—but when I returned wearing a Goodwill polo after taking off my $80 v-neck, he told me I “looked better.” Ironically, they don’t even sell shirts in the shop. That summed up the vibe—overly picky and underwhelming. Final Thoughts: It’s clear why Legend Oaks advertises heavily on GolfNow—something most Charleston-area courses don’t have to do. They need to attract customers, and this experience makes it easy to see why. I really wanted to like it, but between the poor maintenance, bad customer service, and unfriendly policies, I just can’t recommend it.

Tee boxes are in horrible condition, electric carts that don’t allow you to drive on the fairway when it is bone dry and a range that has old mats located between holes 1 & 18. Won’t be going back

We had a 540 tee time. Sprinklers turned on when we got to hole 6. Then they turned on at hole 7, 8, and 9. Food at the club was okay, service not so much... Drinks never came, took a long time, just not the vibes we were after.
