Meadows Farms Golf Course

Locust Grove, Virginia, USACentral Virginia

Meadows Farms Golf Course offers a unique public layout featuring three distinct 9-hole courses that can be combined for varied 18-hole rounds. Highlights include water-challenged greens, rolling terrain, and approachable design suitable for golfers of all levels.

Course Overview

Meadows Farms Golf Course offers a distinctive public golf experience just outside Locust Grove, Virginia. This 27-hole facility arranges its three nines—Islands, Waterfall, and The Longest Hole—into multiple 18-hole combinations that keep each visit fresh and engaging. The layout combines elements of parkland and woodland golf, where rolling terrain mingles with clusters of mature trees and water features that come into play on several holes, making strategy an essential part of the round.

Set against the natural Virginia landscape, Meadows Farms features dramatic elevation changes that challenge golfers without overwhelming them. The Waterfall nine, aptly named, presents one of the course’s more visually striking sequences with water that surrounds several greens and forces well-placed shots. The Islands nine is distinguished by holes surrounded by ponds, requiring both precise ball striking and creativity. Meanwhile, The Longest Hole offers a test of length and accuracy, rewarding those who manage their shots with care.

The course is designed to be approachable for players of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned amateurs. Wide fairways and moderate rough provide room for less experienced golfers, while strategically placed bunkers and water constantly engage lower handicaps. A par-4 practice hole near the clubhouse offers a valuable warm-up that can help fine-tune your game before teeing off.

Meadows Farms supports both walking and cart play, with a series of charming tunnels to drive through adding character and convenience as players move between holes. The friendly and professional staff contribute to an inviting atmosphere, emphasizing enjoyment over pretension.

For those planning a visit, booking times during spring through fall ensures mild conditions and optimal course presentation. While some players have noted occasional challenges with greens conditions, the overall maintenance keeps the course playable and enjoyable year-round. Whether testing your short game near water hazards or navigating the undulating fairways, Meadows Farms balances scenic variety with accessible challenge, making it an appealing destination in the Central Virginia golf scene.

Course Highlights

The three nines—Islands, Waterfall, and The Longest Hole—each present distinct challenges with water hazards guarding greens and fairways. Elevation shifts strengthen shot-making requirements, while scenic woodland framing provides an immersive outdoor experience. The practice par-4 hole near the clubhouse is a standout amenity for pre-round preparation. Cart tunnels offer a unique, memorable touch uncommon in the region.

Really enjoyed the course and I will be back to see how it looks after some warmer months. Most courses in this price range are pretty boring or standard course design, this at least has a few cool signature holes to keep things interesting. Took a star off because the course conditions were not great, and the greens had been punched - if that was noted somewhere on the booking page, it was not obvious enough to know going in.

I had a terrible experience here yesterday (Memorial day). I was literally just telling my partner how much I loved playing here and could we consider getting a membership since we both enjoy it. Then comes the Marshall going around harassing everyone and making them feel like they were playing too slow and it was only our second hole. We were told before we went out it was a slow rate of play and we expected that because its a holiday and anyone who doesnt realize that is brain dead. The Marshall then asked me if I had paid, which was very offensive. And of course, he came over while I was putting and told me to hit. It was honestly the most degrading experience. I ended up trying to suck it up but honestly it almost ruined the whole game for me. Then comes the set of jerks on the second 9 that were literally yelling at people. I obviously wanted them to play through since I hit last and it always seems as though Im the one holding everyone up. While we were waiting on the jerks to tee off, the group behind them comes up. Apparently the jerks were yelling at these guys too and they also let them play through even though we all ended up waiting on the jerks who werent actually good. We briefly saw the manager? She was hilarious and knew that there were some annoying patrons on the course and knew better than to take them seriously. If only the Marshall had the same attitude towards whiney players. I understand wanting to make everyone happy but there is no need to approach players just to stop a few cry babies. Or if you are going to approach players dont make them feel like they are doing something wrong when the course is probably overbooked. Overall I like playing all three sets of 9 (I only played 18 yesterday). The course is beautiful even if not the best kept at times. Its a public course so I personally dont care and find the price appropriate. I usually think the staff is pleasant and Im sure it was a stressful day for them but at the end of the day, this is about having a good time. If even one member of the staff comes across as demeaning then its going to ruin the experience.

This course was a very cool and unexpected find! Three different 9s and you choose two to combine for 18. Choose from Islands, Longest Hole or Waterfall. Well thought out and challenging course. The waterfall was very cool and unique and it was our first time golfing into an island. Moguls, hills, water plenty of obstacles to challenge new and skilled golfers alike. Even a par 4 practice hole before you start your round - fantastic! Very well maintained and reasonable pace of play for a Saturday. Has a few tunnels you can drive through with your cart! All staff were very friendly and helpful from start to finish. There is no snobbiness that you may find at some courses. We had a fantastic time and will absolutely be returning to try the longest hole!! -W and V Sorensen 🏌️‍♀️

Staff very friendly, the course was very nice except the greens were probably at 25% good. They had some sort of mold or bacteria growing all over everyone of them. Very slow and caused crooked ball movement.

Meadow Farms Golf Course has a lot going for it on paper. Three 9-hole courses allow for more players to cycle through, the staff is friendly, and the pro shop, lounge, and grille are all impressive. The course itself is generally in good shape, with well-maintained tee boxes and fairways, and the rough is challenging enough to punish bad shots. Signature features like the waterfall and the longest hole in America add some interesting character. Unfortunately, all of that is overshadowed by the absolutely atrocious condition of the greens. They are, without exaggeration, some of the worst I have ever played. This even includes sand greens in Florida. Patchy, dying, and inexplicably sprouting crabgrass everywhere, they make putting feel like pure guesswork rather than a test of skill. It is downright shameful for the course to charge $86 a round, seemingly justified by the novelty of the longest hole alone. At best, this should be a $45 course for 18 holes, and had I known all the greens looked like the first few, I would have asked for my money back or disputed the charge altogether. To make matters worse, the two golfers I played with mentioned that the greens always look this way. Slow greens are one thing, but this level of neglect or apathy is inexcusable. If the course can maintain its tee boxes, fairways, and rough so well, there is simply no excuse for the greens to be in such a laughable and embarrassing state. Meadow Farms needs to take a hard look at its priorities before expecting players to pay premium prices for such a subpar experience.

It’s a decent course always has been but recently whatever has happened has been brutal, the greens are basically a jungle I think I have less weeds in my front yard than on a single hole. Seriously put some money in to maintenance so people don’t have to putt off a jungle
