Green Mountain National Golf Course

Killington, Vermont, USACentral Vermont

Green Mountain National offers a public 27-hole mountain course in Killington, Vermont, where rolling terrain and striking vistas create a diverse playing experience. Balanced for golfers of different skill levels, the course combines strategic elevation changes with approachable design and solid amenities.

Course Overview

Set against the dramatic contours of Killington’s mountainous landscape, Green Mountain National Golf Course offers a distinctive 27-hole layout that harmonizes natural Vermont terrain with thoughtful golf architecture. Open to the public, this course invites a range of players to engage with its varying elevations, strategic bunkering, and sweeping fairways shaped by the hills. With three separate nine-hole loops, the course provides flexibility for players seeking a shorter round or a full day’s challenge experiencing all 27 holes.

The mountain setting provides expansive vistas and a playing environment rich with seasonal change. From early morning rounds catching crisp, cool air to afternoon tee times bathed in golden light, the scenery plays an essential part in your round without overwhelming the golf itself. The terrain tests shot-making with uphill and downhill lies, while the well-maintained fairways encourage precision off the tee. Greens exhibit moderate undulation and run with a true roll, rewarding thoughtful putting and approach shots.

Players of various skill levels find something to enjoy here. The course balances challenge with fairness, with holes that require both strategic thinking and confident execution. For low handicappers, elevation shifts and natural hazards demand clear club selection and creativity, while mid and higher handicappers can navigate more forgiving landing areas and avoid undue punishment. This design sensibility makes Green Mountain National a practical but stimulating choice for groups, families, and solo golfers alike.

On-site amenities enhance the experience with a grill that offers classic fare and cold beverages, perfect for a post-round respite or a casual gathering. While the bunkers occasionally show signs of wear, course maintenance overall is capable of keeping pace with the demands of mountain weather, and drainage systems hold up well after rain. The staff focuses on welcoming players and supporting steady pace of play, even during busy weekend periods.

When planning a visit, expect to dress in layers and prepare for variable conditions typical of Vermont’s elevations. Walking is encouraged and rewarding here, with paths that weave through scenic forested sections and wide-open clearings. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply seeking a memorable mountain round, Green Mountain National delivers an authentic New England golf experience that blends challenge, accessibility, and natural beauty.

Course Highlights

The multi-loop 27-hole design presents varied challenges with dynamic elevation changes and natural landscape integration. Signature holes include a downhill par-3 over water on the 6th and a sweeping dogleg left on the 10th, both requiring precision and rewarding risk management. The 16th hole offers expansive mountain views framed by dense forest. Well-drained fairways ensure firm playing conditions even after rain, enhancing consistency throughout your round.

Love the course. Played there last month when it was 42 and raining. The guy behind the counter actually seemed annoyed he had to get off his chair to check us in. Third time there. Same guy. Same shitty attitude

This is a nice course tucked into the green mountain's of Killington . You'll find that it is well kept overall with undulating greens that run slow. A nice grill with a good selection of cold beer waits for you afterwards too. Overall a good experience, but overpriced @$140.00 in my opinion.

Green Mountain National – Vermont’s Premier Golfing Playground Our group of eight golfers spent an unforgettable day at Green Mountain National Golf Course in Killington, Vermont — and we’re still talking about it. We teed off in two foursomes at 8:30 and 8:40 AM, determined to take on 27 holes over the course of the day. What we got was not just a round of golf — it was a full-blown golfing adventure set against the breathtaking backdrop of Killington’s mountain vistas. Course conditions? Absolutely pristine. It had rained heavily the night before and even a bit that morning, yet the fairways and greens were dry, firm, and immaculately maintained. The drainage on this course is clearly top-notch — there wasn’t a single soggy patch or waterlogged bunker. Everything was rolling true, and the lush, vibrant green of the course only made the setting more spectacular. What makes Green Mountain National so memorable is its incredible layout. Every hole brings something fresh — with dramatic elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and meandering fairways carved into the natural Vermont terrain. Holes like: • #6 — A picturesque downhill par-3 over water that demands precision and nerve. • #10 — A sweeping dogleg left where the elevated tee gives you a jaw-dropping view (and an ego boost when you crush the drive). • #16 — One of the course’s signature holes, with a downhill fairway framed by dense forest and postcard-worthy mountain views. • And #18 — A strong finisher where club selection and accuracy are everything. Each hole is challenging but fair, offering both low and high handicappers plenty of excitement and opportunities to recover. It’s a course that rewards smart play and tempts you to take a few risks — exactly what you want when you’re out for a day of great golf with friends. After the first 18 holes, we enjoyed a seated lunch at the outdoor grill area — a fantastic and much-needed break. The vibe was laid-back and friendly, never rushed, and the staff were just as welcoming as the course was gorgeous. Ice-cold beers, grilled sandwiches, and mountain air — perfection. We capped off the day with 9 more holes, energized and ready to take in more of the rolling fairways and stunning scenery. The mobile beverage cart service was a great touch throughout the day — stocked with cold drinks, snacks, and plenty of good vibes. Green Mountain National isn’t just a golf course — it’s a Vermont experience. With its unrivaled natural beauty, clever course design, and relaxing pace of play, it stands out as the best public course we’ve played in the state — maybe even New England. We’ll be back, without a doubt. If you’re planning a golf trip to Southern Vermont and play Golf, this course needs to be at the very top of your list.

Challenging course. Definitely has that championship course feel. Was in great condition. This is in my top 3 of nicest courses played now. No one was there when I went out except 1 group behind me. Felt like I had the course to myself. I was told they are just opening for the season though.

The course is fun to play and in great shape. Only 2 opportunities to mention: 1) the bunkers could be better maintained. There wasn’t enough sand in some and others were just not maintained at all. We had to rake and place in a few of the bunkers as a result. 2) it was a slow round. Despite tee times every 12 min, we were waiting on every hole. There was a ranger driving around but it didn’t seem like he was pushing people along at all.
