Clinton Country Club

Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, USACentral Pennsylvania

Clinton Country Club delivers an 18-hole parkland course characterized by mature trees, strategic back-nine challenges, and a welcoming clubhouse dining experience. Its classic design favors precision and thoughtful play in a relaxed rural setting.

Course Overview

Clinton Country Club in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania offers an 18-hole layout that presents a distinctly traditional golf experience set against a rustic rural backdrop. This private course provides a blend of classic design elements that cater to golfers who appreciate a straightforward yet thoughtful test of golf. Its parkland style integrates gently rolling fairways and mature tree lines, creating a sense of separation and quiet focus throughout the round.

While the course’s condition has drawn mixed observations, the layout itself remains a defining feature for visitors. The routing demands strategic shot-making, particularly on the back nine where both par 5s require controlled tee shots rather than pure power. Shorter holes, including its closing par 3s, add variety and encourage precision over distance. Uneven tee boxes and modest green complexes reward accurate approach shots and controlled pace on the putting surfaces.

The setting reflects a community-rooted character rather than a polished resort aesthetic. This translates into a playing experience more accessible to local and mid-level players, though the course does pose subtle challenges that keep better players engaged. The presence of natural rough and bunkers guarding the greens calls for careful navigation and penalizes wayward shots.

Clinton Country Club’s clubhouse serves as a social hub with a casual dining atmosphere, notable for generous portions such as their famously large burgers and a peanut butter pie that draws guests beyond the game itself. This welcoming space extends the experience off the course and offers a comfortable retreat after play.

Golfers planning a visit will want to prepare for walking conditions that reflect the course’s maintenance cycle and to bring versatile clubs for varied distances, especially on holes where driver is discouraged off the tee. Though the club maintains a friendly and inviting membership environment, public play is not available. Carts are offered but walking is possible for those wishing to experience the course at a more deliberate pace.

Overall, Clinton Country Club presents a course anchored in traditional golf values, offering a relaxed yet engaging day that rewards thoughtful play and a love of the game’s enduring rhythms.

Course Highlights

The course features a classic parkland design with two strategically demanding par 5s on the back nine that discourage driver tee shots. Notable are its shorter finishing par 3 holes and tree-lined fairways that provide visual and tactical separation. The clubhouse is well regarded for its welcoming dining, particularly large portions and a popular peanut butter pie dessert.

We had a family reunion here. We like the warm feeling and location of this place. I understand that they are going to tear it down but I hope they keep the charm and warmth of this place. The food we had was very good.

This is a hidden gem in Mill Hall! The food is excellent. The burgers are HUGE, as is the peanut butter pie (the Graham cracker crust is at least half an inch thick and delicious). The menu selection is varied, so there's something for everyone. The atmosphere is a bit like a sports bar, but there's a dining room away from the bar for a quieter atmosphere. Overall, we really enjoy dining here.

The course has a nice layout except for the finishing hole 18, 70 yard par three that has less charm than a local pitch and putt. That being said... the course is in horrible condition! Clover and crabgrass everywhere, burned out fairways and poorly maintained bunkers that have rocks and little sand. They charged 50 dollars... I don’t know how any self respecting USGA course could in good conscience charge more than 30 at MOST for the conditions of this poorly maintained course! Looking at other reviews, it looks like the food must be good there. I only had the Hot dog at the turn. The staff however is very friendly. I’m sure it makes a good local college town sports bar. Might be the only way the course makes its money anymore. I can’t see how anyone would waste their money becoming a member at such a SUB PAR course. Again great layout and challenging greens, which by the way were the only nice things on the course. They must be ready to close the doors... it’s that bad. Please somebody buy the course that can save a nice course and bring it back to playable conditions.

Course has seen much better days. It appears as though there mowers are broken because the "fairways" are more like first cut anywhere else. The rough would be considered long for U.S. Open standards. The greens are slow, bunkers low on sand. There is debris all over the place as you can see with the picture of the fallen tree beside the green with stacked firewood next to it. This type of stuff is prevalent all over the course. Now the layout, both par 5s on the back 9 require you to tee off with less than driver if you hit the ball farther than about 250. Tee boxes are crowned on numerous holes. The closing holes on both 9s are par 3s that are 130 and 90 yds around an interchange of crossing carts. The driving range has a sign stating that you can't hit any clubs longer than 220 yds. The $6 bucket of balls that you get has about 30 balls that look like they were purchased sometime around the turn of the century. There is one target on the range at about 70 yds. On a positive note, the tee box at the range is grass. I paid $23 for the round with cart and felt like I paid too much! Needless to say, I won't come back.
