Juniper Golf Course

Redmond, Oregon, USACentral Oregon

Juniper Golf Course offers a challenging yet accessible 18-hole public layout that captures the raw character of Central Oregon’s high desert. Known for its well-kept fairways, smooth greens, and striking panoramic views, it provides a rewarding golf experience for players of all levels.

Course Overview

Juniper Golf Course stands as a premier public facility in Central Oregon, offering a demanding yet approachable 18-hole layout set against the rugged beauty of the high desert. This course balances an enjoyable challenge for low handicaps with accessible playability for beginners and intermediate players. Its well-maintained fairways carve through arid terrain interspersed with native juniper trees, sagebrush, and expansive views of the surrounding volcanic hills and distant Cascades, creating a setting that marries natural starkness with refined design.

The course's design emphasizes strategic shot placement, featuring generous landing areas but also well-guarded greens and natural hazards that test precision. Juniper’s putting surfaces are known for their smoothness and can play fast, demanding a keen touch around the greens. Bunkers are thoughtfully placed but generally forgiving, allowing players of all skill levels to find a workable path through the round.

One of Juniper’s strengths lies in its excellent practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, long chipping area, and a large putting green that offers an excellent warm-up and skills development opportunity before heading out. The course supports a rewarding walking experience with gently rolling terrain and well-maintained cart paths that make coverage manageable even for those choosing to stroll.

Amenities at Juniper include The View restaurant, which overlooks the course and provides a perfect spot to relax after your round with satisfying food and sweeping panoramas. A beverage cart circulates regularly during peak seasons, helping players stay refreshed. Membership programs offer valuable benefits for frequent golfers, making Juniper a hub for both competitive tournaments and casual play.

Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions common in the region, including gusty winds in the afternoon during spring and summer. Pace of play can vary greatly, so planning tee times on less crowded days or later in the day is advisable. Overall, Juniper presents a vibrant and authentic golf experience grounded in the landscape of Central Oregon, inviting players to test their skills amid striking natural scenery without sacrificing accessibility.

Course Highlights

Juniper features expansive high desert vistas framed by native juniper and sagebrush, with a design that rewards accuracy and course management. The course showcases smooth, fast greens and multiple strategic bunkers that frame key holes. The View restaurant offers quality dining with panoramic views, complementing a well-rounded golfing experience. Nice and well maintained course with a friendly staff that’s open to all skill levels. If I HAD to be critical in any capacity, I’d request a few more water refill stations and/or some covered and shaded areas along the cart path for those super hot days. That’d really be my only critique, the place is truly great!

Probably the best true public (municipal) golf course on the west coast and one of the best in America. Course is very high quality for a muni. Some locals call it Pronghorn Junior (in ref to the resort courses at The Preserve, nearby) Pros: 1. Fairways are pristine and well maintained. Tee boxes too. 2. Greens are excellent, however, bear in mind, this is a fully open public course, so it gets lots of play by higher handicappers and recreational golfers. 3. Except for a few holes, the bunkers are in good shape, but due to splash, some may need to be replenished with sand a little more often. 4. Excellent practice facilities! Especially the back of the range for members. Chipping practice area behind the restaurant is huge. Putting practice green is big and true to actual greens. 5. Also, Juniper has the best PDP membership program in the west. Probably the entire country. Pay 50.00 per month for membership fee, plus 23.00 per round, including cart and range balls, after 1:00. Playing at least twice per month pays for itself and you can use the practice facilities anytime. This also has reciprocals at other courses in CO. 6. Juniper hosts some great Am tournaments including OGA, NWGG, and PNGA. 7. Bev Cart is usually very active between 9 and 5, and 8. The View restaurant at the turn is great! Some cons: 1. Pace of play can be ridiculously slow. RIDICULOUSLY slow! Especially if you are playing behind beginners or families...and most of the time, Juniper does not enforce pace of play rules. If you are a single on a slow day, play late, or try jumping around to gap holes to get them all in, if you can. 2. The greens do get a lot of traffic (lots of three and four jackers sashaying back and forth over the hole) and, unfortunately, many players do not repair their divots, so bring a divot tool and be prepared to fix a few extra. 3. There may be some GUR areas on a few greens that may be temporarily roped off, early in the season. But, not a big deal. 4. It can get WINDY in the afternoons during late fall, spring and summer. Weather can change quickly too. Know the forecast. 5. Juniper will have several temp greens during cold months of winter. Call the pro shop or check their website prior to see if temps are being used. Overall, Juniper is one of the west's great courses with great staff.

Top notch public course in Central Oregon. Course was in great shape and the views throughout are awesome. Great course to walk and take everything in. Saw the beverage cart person many times and they have cold water available throughout. Bar and Grill has some great food at affordable prices and even better views. Adds some pressure to those finishing up on 18.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Many unfulfilled promises by staff that lead to a terrible experience. The website says only three greens were closed. There were many more than that. Most tee boxes were mats. This might be understandable, however, the websites winter price was more than $30 cheaper than what we were charged. We called the day before and we were told that the course would be empty and we could play with two tee times as a group. When we went to golf we were reprimanded, told we had never been to a golf course before and that we had knowingly broken many rules but didn't want to admit it. When we asked the clubhouse why there were discrepancies in the information we received, we were told by the power hungry worker that we were lying and the staff would have never approved this. Keep in mind our pace of play was under 15 mins per hole. This place and its employees are incredibly condescending for being a sub par, public course. Nobody I know will be returning. Would rather golf any course within 100 miles
