Split Rock Golf Course

Orient, Ohio, USACentral Ohio

Split Rock Golf Course delivers a classic 18-hole parkland layout in the heart of rural Ohio. With approachable fairways, subtle green contours, and a modest length just over 6,600 yards, it offers a balanced golf experience suitable for players seeking a straightforward, no-frills day on the course.

Course Overview

Split Rock Golf Course offers an 18-hole layout located in Orient, Ohio, presenting a traditional parkland experience for golfers of varying skill levels. This public course occupies a countryside setting defined by gently rolling fairways framed by mature trees and natural rough, providing a straightforward yet occasionally demanding test of golf. The terrain is forgiving in places while requiring thoughtful shot placement to navigate fairway bunkers and strategically positioned hazards.

Players will encounter a blend of short and mid-length holes that encourage a steady all-around game rather than landing purely on power. The par-72 course stretches just over 6,600 yards from the back tees, creating a manageable length that rewards accuracy and course management over raw distance. Split Rock’s greens, while typical in their undulations, present subtle contours that call for precision on approaches and putting. The fairways are primarily generous, allowing higher-handicap golfers a reasonable chance to stay in play, though the rough can become tricky, especially with thick patches of clover that conceal errant shots.

The course’s setting retains a rural charm without overwhelming natural obstacles, making it accessible for players seeking a casual day out without a steep learning curve. Carts equipped with GPS systems aid navigation across the links, enhancing the overall experience. Amenities include a clubhouse where players can gather before or after rounds.

While the course is public, it carries an earnest sense of community spirit typical of smaller, locally oriented venues. Golfers should note that care and maintenance can vary with seasonal weather, impacting green speeds and the condition of bunkers. Walking the course is permitted, though the terrain’s mild elevation changes recommend comfortable footwear.

Split Rock provides a down-to-earth golf outing where practical playability meets a walkable layout framed by Ohio’s quiet farmland. It invites players to focus on shot-making and enjoy a modest challenge set amid a natural, open environment without the pretensions of higher-profile destinations. Visitors hoping for a straightforward, approachable round will find ample value in this Midwestern fairway escape.

Course Highlights

The course emphasizes a traditional parkland style with wide fairways bordered by mature trees and natural rough pockets. Its greens provide subtle challenges through contours rather than dramatic slopes. Split Rock’s GPS-equipped carts assist player navigation, while the rural Ohio setting offers a peaceful backdrop absent of major elevation swings or coastal winds. The course’s approachable length and design serve a broad golfing audience, balancing accessibility with enough strategic elements to keep play engaging.

Horrible experience, we had 3 first time golfers and were being pressured the whole time by the Marshall to hurry up when there wasn’t even anyone pushing up on us. The Marshall would set a distance away and watch us and he also made our group of 8 split up. Owner of the course found out someone in our group had beer and he started moving our stuff around and going through it on the cart. The owner gave us an option to get a rain check and come back another day when they were not busy or skip from hold 9 to hole 13 and 12. Overall experience was just not good, and would not recommend. Unless you wanna be watched like a hawk from the Marshall.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. The greens and bunkers looked like Daddy Trump was doing practice runs for dropping bombs in the middle east. We had a group of 3 ahead of us who was playing slow for most of the front 9. We stopped for beverages at the turn and all the sudden by hole 14 - they said we were 3 holes behind. NO F'N WAY!

Course has gone downhill. Average at best. Fun course, but they don't take care of it like they should. Tee boxes were over grown, bunkers are un playable. Lots of better choices out there.

The greens were the worst I’ve ever played on. Bunkers were not taken care of either. The cart had gps, which was very nice though.

Fairways are fine, but the rough has a lot of clover, which hides your ball if you hit into it. Greens were slow but that could be because of all the rain. Carts have GPS which is nice.

The woman reached into my friends personal cooler. She felt it's her right because she owns the cart. My car is on her property and she is out in my car. She's not but same thing. Okay to bring cigarettes. Will recommend out 10 groups never play there again
