Santa Ana Golf Club

Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, USACentral New Mexico

Santa Ana Golf Club challenges players with 27 holes of desert golf that balance precision and power. Featuring three unique 9-hole layouts, the course offers striking high-desert scenery and well-conditioned greens that reward strategic play and resilience.

Course Overview

Santa Ana Golf Club unfolds across 27 holes carved into the high desert landscape of New Mexico, offering a compelling blend of technical golfing challenges and breathtaking natural scenery. Located just outside Santa Ana Pueblo, this member-owned facility features three distinct 9-hole courses—Star, Sage, and Sand—that combine to provide variety and strategic depth for players of all levels. The layout takes full advantage of its desert setting, with elevation changes and desert flora shaping the fairways and demanding precise shot-making under often steady winds.

The Star Course stands out as the jewel of the trio, known for its length and particularly challenging finishing holes. Golfers encounter a test of accuracy and nerve here, with water hazards looming on the par fives that close the round. The greens across the club are well-maintained and reputed to be both smooth and fast once you adapt to their speed, adding an additional layer of complexity for putting. Fairways tend to be firm and offer ample roll, encouraging thoughtful club selection and rewarding strategic play.

Santa Ana’s atmosphere strikes a balance that appeals to golfers seeking a competitive test while still welcoming players exploring the intricacies of desert golf. Walking is common across the course, albeit with some elevation shifts that may incline certain players to opt for a cart. The club’s layout and conditioning invite repeat visits, with the Star Rewards program adding value for members and guests.

Beyond the course itself, the clubhouse provides a relaxed yet elegant setting where the views extend across the greens and surrounding mesas. The onsite restaurant and bar serve as a gathering point post-round, with patios that maximize the expansive vistas unique to this part of New Mexico. Staff are often highlighted for their attentive service, contributing to a welcoming environment.

With its combination of desert terrain, strategic variety, and well-appointed amenities, Santa Ana Golf Club offers a rich experience tailored to both seasoned players and those seeking to master a demanding yet accessible course.

Course Highlights

The club’s three distinct 9-hole courses—Star, Sage, and Sand—each bring their own strategic emphasis, with the Star layout featuring challenging water hazards on its finishing holes. Desert vegetation and elevation shifts demand local knowledge and refined course management. The clubhouse offers one of the most impressive bar views in New Mexico, blending comfort with panoramic overlooks.

Home to one of, if not, my favorite holes on the planet. Course is tough, and requires quite a bit of target golf and greens are tricky. Great views throughout the course and this place has one of the best bar views on a course period.

I play this course often throughout the year. They have three 9 hole courses so is usually easy to get a tee time and play without much delay. I last played this course on June 12th 2023. The course was in very good condition. The greens were a little slow and shaggy, but once you get used to the speed they roll very well. The last two par fives on their signature hole play very long and are a challenging finish with water in play. I do walk the course for a good workout but due to elevation changes there are mostly riders. They do have a restaurant with a bar that has amazing views and an outside patio that's very long and also has amazing views. The photo is looking over the putting green just outside the clubhouse. Their Star Rewards program is an excellent value and worth checking out! Update: I continue to play this course regularly. As the winter progresses, you get a lot of run out in the fairway. Also greens are fast and in great shape. A few geese on the course makes for a messy walk at times. In the lounge, green chili chicken enchiladas are very good.

Santa Ana Golf Course was in great shape — fairways smooth, greens rolling true. Sure, a couple pin placements were borderline cruel , but we powered through. Major shoutout to the cart attendant who went back to the clubhouse just to grab us cranberry juice. Super sweet. And the views are amazing. Already looking forward to my rematch with hole 9 on Star!

Grass wasn’t all that great on the tee boxes or greens this time around. Otherwise it’s a beautiful course.
