Puerto del Sol Golf Course and Learning Center

Albuquerque, New Mexico, USACentral New Mexico

Puerto del Sol Golf Course and Learning Center provides an approachable 9-hole layout in Albuquerque known for its accessible practice facilities and straightforward play. This public course offers a city-adjacent option for golfers focused on skill development and relaxed rounds within a desert setting.

Course Overview

Puerto del Sol Golf Course and Learning Center offers a welcoming 9-hole layout situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This public facility is designed to provide a practical and accessible golfing experience tailored for players honing their skills or those seeking a casual round close to the city. The course features a relatively flat terrain with short par-3 and par-4 holes framed by open fairways and subtle natural undulations, inviting golfers to focus on shot precision without overwhelming elevation changes.

The course’s setting is defined by its proximity to urban surroundings, blending stretches of desert flora with patches of maintained turf. While it lacks the dramatic panoramas of mountain or links-style courses, its straightforward design rewards accurate iron play and good short game technique. The gentle winds typical of the Albuquerque area add a mild challenge without dramatically affecting playability, making Puerto del Sol a reliable choice for players from beginners to intermediate levels.

One of Puerto del Sol’s standout amenities is its comprehensive practice facility, including a well-maintained putting green and a chipping area, both recent improvements that underscore the course’s commitment to player development. The teaching staff is approachable and focused on providing accessible instruction. Equipment rentals and a modest pro shop support guests who arrive without gear.

Golfers planning a visit should prepare for a busy, city-supported venue that may experience occasional maintenance and some limitations in course condition. Safety is a noted concern near the driving range where the fence height relative to tee boxes requires cautious play, particularly for long hitters. Walking is encouraged, given the course’s compact size, though golfers should wear sturdy shoes suited for the desert environment.

Puerto del Sol Golf Course and Learning Center stands as a practical urban option for golfers prioritizing practice and consistency over challenging terrain. It serves the Albuquerque area as a straightforward, approachable course that welcomes players to sharpen their game within the city’s bounds.

Course Highlights

The course’s practical design emphasizes training with dedicated short game areas, including recently resurfaced putting and chipping greens. Its straightforward holes are framed by desert landscaping, and the facility offers experienced instruction supporting players at all levels. Although the driving range fence height requires caution for long shots, the course remains a solid option for urban golfers seeking convenience and focused practice opportunities.

Thanks to all the worker for taking care of the facility. Course looks good. Going for a second round. 👍👍👍 From 5 stars to 3. Second time around bad experience. Called in to book a tee time early in the week, picked the time they suggested, then come Saturday freaking nothing. Thanks to the guy at the counter for getting us in to play.

The fairway was not well maintained even in the middle of it. (I'll give it a 2.5 stars) Hole 3 (the one there's a big big tank on the left side of fairway) green was under maintenance, while the temporary green was not mowed at all, you barely can put. Hole 9 is right by the highway, be careful not to drive your ball out to it (a local guy played with me did it 😂)

This place resurfaced it's a putting green for practice 3 weeks ago it looks great and is wonderful to practice at. Just to the south of the clubhouse they have an excellent chipping green. Great prices friendly staff and a very accessible pro who freely answers questions to customers. Great 9-hole cours and ideal for practicing.

HIGHLY unsafe course. This is a City - tax money - funded course with huge safety issues and a staff that has been incompetent for years by leaving them unresolved. - The back fence for the driving range is only 15 feet tall and a little under 250 yards from the placement of the tee boxes for it. On the other side of the fence is the starting tee box for a hole on the course. If you can hit further than 250yds you will land on the other side of the fence. - I have had multiple staff members from the course tell me that people have complained about balls going over and almost hitting them while golfing, and just today an older gentleman working the register told me that he has almost been hit from balls going over while he was out on on the course. So the staff is clearly aware of the issue, and I'm sure has been for years. - There are no warning signs or anything about being careful not to hit over 250yds, and I have occasionally seen a worker come out and ask someone to stop hitting over the fence. This is ALL the corrective action that is available, and by that time people could have been hit on the other side of the fence already. So the staff doesn't have a competent plan in action to secure it's customers on the course. That this hazardous course is taxpayer funded is sad. The City should pull funding until the problem is fixed, and I'm sure a fix can be found even as simply as raising the fence or installing netting that extends above the fence. It's a disregard for the safety of it's customers. Also, the other city courses tend to be kept in better condition and can offer a better experience than Puerto del Sol. I highly recommend Ladera.
