Isleta Golf Club
Isleta Golf Club features two contrasting 18-hole layouts set in Albuquerque’s high desert, combining open fairways and strategic water hazards. This public facility appeals to a wide range of golfers seeking a challenging yet approachable desert course experience.
Course Overview
Isleta Golf Club presents two distinct 18-hole courses hung strikingly against Albuquerque’s high desert backdrop, offering a blend of varied terrain that challenges both strategy and shot-making. The Mesa Course unfolds with broad, open fairways that capture the sweeping desert views, inviting players of all skill levels to engage the layout without intimidation. The Lakes Course contrasts with pockets of water and tighter landing zones, introducing a nuanced test that rewards accuracy and thoughtful club selection. Together, they compose a 36-hole golfing destination easily accessible within the region.
Located just south of Albuquerque’s urban core, the course rests amidst arid desert plains, punctuated by native grasses and sparse junipers, creating a landscape that feels rugged yet open. This setting lends itself to a playing experience where wind routinely factors into shot decisions and elevation changes prompt adjustments in stance and club choice. The greens are moderately contoured, offering a surface that encourages precise putting without overwhelming complexity. Course conditions have fluctuated seasonally, so visitors are advised to confirm maintenance schedules to ensure optimal play.
Isleta Golf Club operates as a public facility with a welcoming atmosphere suited to a broad audience—from weekend beginners seeking a scenic backdrop to seasoned players aiming to sharpen competitive skills. The course’s layout affords multiple forward tees, enhancing accessibility while preserving the challenge for advanced golfers through extended championship tees.
Amenities include a well-appointed clubhouse with a pro shop that stocks essential merchandise and rental equipment. Practice facilities offer a driving range and putting greens, allowing players to fine-tune their game before setting off. The clubhouse dining options provide a casual yet inviting space to relax after play while absorbing the expansive desert horizon.
Visitors planning a round should prepare for walking distances that vary between holes, particularly on the Lakes Course, where the transition from greens to tees covers additional ground. Sturdy golf shoes with grip are recommended to navigate sandy and firm terrain comfortably. Early morning tee times can offer cooler temperatures and calmer winds, contributing to a more forgiving round.
Isleta Golf Club’s unique combination of desert landscape and thoughtful course design delivers a memorable experience that stretches the ability of all players without alienating newcomers. Its dual-course setup invites exploration and replay, making it a noteworthy stop for golfers traveling through New Mexico’s central corridor.

Course (Mesa & Lakes) were in good condition. One tee box, #9, was in need of reconditioning. Inside staff were very friendly. Range balls available 30 minutes prior to your tee time included in the green fee. Long distances between green and next tee box so walkers have an extra challenge. Golf course merchandise available in the pro shop.

I hate leaving a bad review here because the staff in the shop and restaurant are really great. But wow, they have lost this golf course. Terrible conditions. It used to be one of the greenest courses in the area. For the last year it has gone way down hill. They’ve got casino money and reservation water. Yet, the city courses are in better condition. It makes no sense. Completely dead fairways, dirt tee boxes and the greens are still damaged from aeration. Hope you guys can turn it around soon.

No matter what the pro shop tells you the course is trash. Don’t waste your money and most importantly your time.

The course is in really bad shape for 65$. I won’t be back anytime soon. Hopefully they get it back up to par, as it’s one of my favorite place to play in abq. These are just a couple of photos. The majority of the course looks like This.

Played today and the greens and tee boxes were completely dead, all the way down to sand. Extremely disappointing. We used to play here a lot a few years ago and it was great but this was awful. They should discount the cost if this is the condition.

Extremely disappointed with the lack of basic hospitality and accountability at this golf club. We played on a day with temperatures well into the upper 90s — dangerously hot conditions — and were assured by clubhouse staff (specifically Zach) that water would be provided at holes 4 and 7. That turned out to be completely false. There was no water at either location, and after bringing this to their attention, we were treated as if we were lying- they forced us to show them photos in order for them to even believe us. Instead of acknowledging the issue or offering a solution, we were dismissed and told to “figure it out ourselves.” Inexcusable behavior, especially when it comes to player safety and simple decency. A golf course that can’t be bothered to keep its promises or provide water during extreme heat clearly has its priorities in the wrong place. Save your time, money, and health — play somewhere that actually cares about its guests. If it weren’t for the disrespectful staff and lack of water, the course might’ve actually been enjoyable.
