Course Overview

Located just a short drive from Edison, New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers a classic private golfing experience within Central New Jersey. This 18-hole championship course challenges players with a traditional parkland design set against mature hardwoods and gently rolling terrain. The layout demands thoughtful shot-making, with well-placed bunkers and subtly contoured greens that reward precision. While the course presents a stern test for low handicappers, its multiple tees also accommodate mid- and higher-handicap players seeking an engaging yet fair round.

The overall setting provides a quiet retreat from the bustle of nearby urban areas. Tree-lined fairways create defined corridors that bend and undulate, requiring a strategic approach on every hole. A freshwater creek crosses several holes, adding both visual appeal and tactical complexity. The terrain’s gentle elevation changes keep the round interesting without overly taxing stamina, making walking a viable and enjoyable option for many golf enthusiasts.

As a members-only facility, Plainfield Country Club maintains an atmosphere of exclusivity balanced by well-kept grounds and attentive service. The clubhouse anchors the property, offering comfortable dining and event spaces that extend the day’s experience beyond the fairways. Practice facilities include a driving range and putting green, ensuring players can sharpen key skills before their round.

The course’s character is defined by its careful blending of challenge and approachability. Bunkers are deep but fair, often guarding greens that slope and break in subtle ways, encouraging accurate iron play. While wind conditions are typically moderate, they can occasionally influence shot selection on more exposed holes, keeping players alert.

For those plotting a visit through Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club stands as a distinguished example of private golf that balances tradition with playability. The combination of natural features, thoughtful design, and quality maintenance provide a rewarding test framed by quiet, unhurried surroundings. Planning your round here means embracing a classic parkland challenge with plenty to hold your interest from the first tee to the final putt.

This is the worst golf course I've ever played. $55 plus tax to play a course that hasn't been mowed in over a month. If that's not bad enough, every green is burnt up and nothing but sand. They claim that the rain has caused them to not be able to mow, but yet every green is burnt up. Literally not even the tee boxes are cut. It's like hitting out of the rough off the tee. Save yourself $60 and don't come here. Looks like on a couple of holes on the back 9 they cut around the tee box, but didn't cut the tee.

Played 9 holes with a 4:45 pm tee time. The charge for green fees and cart fee was $45. No twilight fee special. For the shape this course is in, this was ridiculous. You can’t tell the difference between the fairway, the rough, and the native area. The greens are full of sand and are not cut to length. Some of the most uneven and slowest greens I’ve ever seen. Your ball will bounce across it, not roll. Unless there are some serious improvements, I will not return. Such a shame because there is no other halfway affordable course in town.

This is the course is where golf dies a slow, agonizing death. To call this a golf course is kind a significant stretch. It’s as though someone took 18 flags and chucked them into various locations of a cow pasture. There are now fairways. You can faintly see where a fairway used to be but the rough and fairways blend into one large overgrown field more suitable for sheep than golfers. I booked a threesome for 18 holes and after we teed off on hole one, it was evident that we were in for a very long round. I hit the middle of the fairway and the ball disappeared never to be seen again. It was so bad we quit and requested a refund only to be told there are no refunds. They did tell me that they used to provide rain checks but it wasn’t raining so she couldn’t give me one even if she wanted to. Overall, I would suggest lacing this course with napalm and starting over. Abandon all hope, ye who enter this course.

Save yourself and your clubs and don’t play here.

They definitely need someone that knows how to maintain the course. Greens are in terrible condition. Fairway needs work as well. Pool is nice. It needs a good update and cleaning. Grill is an added benefit but way over priced.

It was a beautiful day and we didn’t see another person on the golf course. Unfortunately we found out why, the greens had more sand on them then some sand traps. Would not recommend unless you are a beginner golfer and want a place to go out and get some swings in. The layout could be nice if they get the course in better shape
