Course Overview
Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers an exclusive golfing experience across its meticulously maintained 18-hole layout. As a private members-only course, it caters to golfers seeking a refined and challenging environment within a classic parkland setting. Mature hardwoods frame the fairways, while gently rolling terrain creates subtle elevation changes that influence shot strategy without overwhelming players of moderate skill. The course plays to a par 72 over approximately 6,800 yards, striking a balance between inviting approachability and strategic demand. Greens are contoured with care, accompanied by bunkers that protect key scoring areas, encouraging thoughtful placement and precision.
Plainfield’s design emphasizes thoughtful shot-making over brute distance, rewarding a well-planned round. The moderate tree density enhances the sense of seclusion on each hole, fostering moments of focus and calm as golfers navigate through the layout’s nuances. The course’s overall rhythm flows naturally, with a mix of longer par 4s and reachable par 5s inviting variety in gameplay. While challenging enough to engage lower handicaps, the course remains accessible, making it suitable for a broad range of players committed to honing their skills.
Off the course, the clubhouse serves as a refined hub with elegant dining options, locker rooms, and event spaces tailored to members’ needs. Walking is encouraged, with smooth cart paths and firm turf lending comfortable footing. Given the tree-lined corridors and gently rolling surfaces, comfortable walking shoes will ease course navigation.
For visitors and members preparing to play, early tee times in spring and fall tend to offer the most pleasant weather and course conditions. Members must book in advance, as play is limited to those invited. The controlled access helps maintain the pristine condition and pace of play the club upholds.
Among the course’s highlights is a par 3 over water that tests accuracy under pressure, and a closing par 5 that weaves through mature oaks and doglegs to the right, offering risk-reward options for aggressive players. The blend of natural features and precise maintenance creates an environment where every round feels both special and competitive, a true reflection of Plainfield Country Club’s dedication to quality golf.

We’ve played at this course a few times and enjoyed it. Not the case this last experience. We had an elder man at the front desk pester us throughout our game about rushing through and demanding we were using proper golf etiquette in the most condescending and aggressive manner as if we haven’t golfed for more than 15 years.

Terrible staff and management, my pregnant daughters were buying snacks and the staff gave away there golf cart to another group. This club is lost. Not to mention a harassing older man who filled us around the entire time. We were waiting for a group ahead and he was pushing us forward. Very unsafe environment. Do not recommend. Also he had a creep I have seven people playing together with only three sets of clubs he should have been encouraging them to go faster instead of pushing people that couldn’t go nowhere because of the group ahead of them

9 hole Course was decent for the area but the staff was absolutely terrible! The most unprofessional, hostile older man practically stalked us around the course all day for no apparent reason. I’d recommend making a drive to Corinth to Hillendale’s or Shiloh for a better overall experience.
