Course Overview

Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club is a private, 18-hole championship course that offers a refined golf experience with a classic parkland layout. Spanning a length typical for competitive play, the course presents a thoughtful design marked by tree-lined fairways and strategic bunkering that challenges a variety of skill levels without overwhelming less experienced players. The terrain undulates gently, offering a balanced blend of elevation changes and flat areas that influence shot selection and club choice throughout the round.

Set within mature hardwoods, the course provides a calm retreat from the suburban surroundings, framing each hole with seasonal colors that add both visual interest and subtle playing difficulties as leaves gather in key spots. Water hazards appear sparingly but with intent, often protecting green complexes and requiring precision on approach shots. The course layout is straightforward enough to encourage a steady pace of play while still rewarding thoughtful strategy and shot execution.

Plainfield Country Club caters primarily to private members, emphasizing a respectful pace and tradition. Walking is fully supported, with well-maintained cart paths and accessible terrain for those preferring to engage closely with the course’s natural rhythm. The clubhouse acts as both a social hub and a functional facility, offering a welcoming space before and after rounds with dining and locker room amenities.

The course holds a quiet charm for golfers aiming to hone their skills or enjoy a competitive round in an environment that balances challenge with accessibility. Its classic parkland style, without excessive complexity, makes it appealing to players who appreciate shot-making variety and course management. Whether navigating greens guarded by subtle slopes or teeing off along narrow corridors lined by towering trees, players will find opportunities to test their game against reliable yardages and thoughtfully placed hazards.

Those planning a visit should prepare to arrive early for check-in due to a structured tee time schedule, and wearing appropriate golf shoes is advised to maximize traction on occasionally firm fairways. While carts are available, many opt to walk and savor the course’s rhythm. Seasonal changes bring differing conditions, from crisp autumn air invigorating morning rounds to the vibrant green of summer’s peak.

Plainfield Country Club offers a solid, traditional golf experience with a clear emphasis on member enjoyment, quiet intensity, and a layout that maintains its character through every season.

A very nice, condensed course that took my group of four about three hours to play all 18 holes with minor hood ups on about 3-4 holes that were welcome in the heat. There were a good amount of chips taken out of most of the Tee Boxes, but nothing that made negative impacts on our game. Make sure you get there at least 15 minutes early! We heard some guy getting an earful for being a few minutes late who was checking in behind us.

Guy at the desk thinks he works at bedminster. Cart they gave us died, and then the second one they gave us also died a few minutes later. Course is nothing special and nowhere on their website do they say alcohol is not permitted. If this were the only course available just don’t go going.

I’ve played the 9 hole course only. I drove an hour and 20 mins to play there. Reviews are good so I figured I’d give it a shot. The 9 hole course is a little weak for my game but I’m Sure it’s perfect for others. It’s great that they even have the option to have 27 holes. The actual 18hole course seems well maintained and great reviews on that too. I really only play by myself. It’s my escape from work all week. Most courses don’t let singles play and MUST pair them up. I seen a older lady playing the 18 by herself, so I’m praying that is the case because I play my best golf when I’m alone and focused. I’ve showed to many of courses alone pleading and praying I can play alone and sometimes it wasn’t even busy at all. Still, I would be paired with 3 others who are no where near my talent level. It’s like Tiger and me playing together. Makes no sense. I’m praying they let me do a single round myself- even if I have to make a reservation ahead of time or pay more. I just want to play alone. Overall- great experience and definitely coming back for than full course.

Rude staff, make up rules on the whim for who can use a golf cart on a 9 hole.

There logic of who can drive a golf cart is terrible u have to be 18 to drive one and a 17 year old who drove 40 minutes on the park way to get here can’t drive a golf cart in the open makes no sense u also have to pay to be a passenger and can not share clubs 0-10 will never go again
