Stretching over 7,000 yards, this championship layout offers a balanced challenge attractive to skilled players while remaining accessible to mid-handicappers through multiple tee options.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole championship layout that serves as a true challenge for golfers who appreciate a course with both strategic demands and natural beauty. Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, this private club presents a well-maintained parkland style course, where mature trees frame fairways and gently undulating greens reward precise approach shots. The course yardage pushes beyond 7,000 yards from the back tees, making it a substantial test for lower handicaps, while multiple tee boxes provide scoring opportunities for a wide range of players aiming to sharpen their skills.

From the first tee, the course unfolds with a measured rhythm that alternates demanding long par-4s and reachable par-5s, compelling golfers to consider each shot in context. The bunkers stand vigilant around key landing areas and green complexes, offering the kind of trouble that punishes lapses in concentration. Water makes appearances thoughtfully, requiring careful navigation but never overwhelming the layout. Greens run true and fast, putting a premium on distance control and green-reading. The rolling terrain adds subtle elevation changes that affect club selection and approach angles, giving the course a dynamic flow.

The setting benefits from its mature landscaping, providing a serene but focused atmosphere conducive to serious play. It is an environment where walkers find a measure of tranquility, thanks to well-kept cart paths and manageable elevation shifts. The clubhouse is a refined space offering members gathering areas and dining options after rounds, making it more than a place to play but also a social hub.

Plainfield Country Club attracts golfers who seek a classic private course experience where traditional design principles meet solid playability. Its layout demands thoughtful decision-making without venturing into extremes, striking a balance that respects the game’s traditions. Advanced players will appreciate the challenge, while mid-handicappers can enjoy a fair but firm test. With a membership-focused approach, access requires invitation, ensuring the course maintains its condition and character.

For those planning a visit, sturdy walking shoes are recommended, alongside a focus on course etiquette and pace of play. Seasonal conditions in New Jersey typically make spring through fall the prime window for optimal enjoyment. Plainfield’s combination of natural beauty, classic parkland design, and thoughtful strategy offers a memorable round steeped in golf’s enduring values.

Do not use this company. I bought a gift certificate online and never received it. I’ve tried calling twice and emailing 3 times and they have never responded.

Excellent hotel, Hilton La Jolla, Torrey Pines. Although the hotel is a bit dated, the staff are what makes it fantastic. I played the south course at Torrey Pines and it was tough but very enjoyable. A pity that the greens had just been aerated and there was a lot of sand on them too. The same with the tees.

Needed a last-minute tee time, and San Diego Golf Reservations pulled through. Worked with Steve who helped with the process and made it really easy. Ended up playing at a different course than planned, but it was just as good. Can’t wait to use them again on my next trip to San Diego! Thank you Steve!

Spencer hooked us up at Aviara Golf Club and this place is fantastic. Arnold Palmer design, greens are tricky and roll great. The scenery is spectacular. Highly recommend it and SFGR.

Chris did a fantastic job helping us book multiple tee times for our trip to San Diego. He made sure we had the exact times we wanted on our desired courses. I don’t know the last time I had such great customer service. His knowledge of the city and the courses available was great! Such a great experience.

Played the south course. The course itself was in good condition and the greens were soft, yet rolling fast. Beautiful weather conditions and the parasailors were taking advantage of it. The entire golf staff made you feel quite at home. Over all a great day for golfing.
