Course Overview

Situated just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers a distinguished golfing experience reserved exclusively for its members. This private 18-hole championship course demands respectful precision while rewarding well-executed shots with compelling strategic options at every turn. Players encounter a layout that blends classic parkland design with mature tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that call for careful attention to both approach and putting.

The course unfolds over approximately 6,800 yards with a par of 72, offering a balance that challenges low handicaps yet remains playable for accomplished mid-handicap golfers. Its expansive fairways provide room to shape drives, while well-placed bunkers and water hazards test course management and shot selection. Throughout the round, golfers find themselves negotiating natural slopes and elevation changes that add texture without overwhelming less experienced players.

Plainfield Country Club’s setting is defined by its mature hardwoods and well-maintained turf, framing each hole with a timeless aesthetic that speaks to traditional golf values rather than modern extremes. This environment not only enhances visual appeal but also influences playability—winds filter through the trees, adding subtle but meaningful variables that influence mid- to long-range shots.

The clubhouse serves as the hub for member activities, boasting refined facilities that complement the course’s tranquil rhythm. Its amenities include a well-equipped pro shop, dining options, and practice areas suited for warming up or fine-tuning specific parts of the game. Walking the course is encouraged, and sturdy footwear is advised given the rolling terrain and natural turf conditions.

Overall, Plainfield Country Club delivers a thoughtfully crafted golf experience aimed at players who appreciate strategic depth and classical design in a private, welcoming environment. Those planning a visit should consider seasonal conditions when the course is at its firmest and fastest, typically in late spring and early fall, for an optimal challenge and enjoyment of its subtle character.

Nothing but good things to say about Eric and Petoskey Golf Center. Eric got me in for a fitting on short notice, I went in planning on getting all new full set, he was extremely helpful and easy to work with, never tried to upsell me, even talked me out of buying a new driver and set of wedges, along with a quick lesson that helped me start to fix my slice and tack on more yardage with my driver than I could have hoped for. 5 stars, I’ll recommend them to anyone who will listen.

Had a driver fitting with Erik and he made it very easy and efficient. He knew what adjustments and equipment would improve my yardage and ball flight almost instantly after watching a few swings. The final result was impressive. Highly recommend.

Atmosphere is relaxed and very comfortable to spend the whole day there. Great to have in the Petoskey area!
