Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole private parkland challenge marked by mature tree-lined fairways and strategic bunkering. Combining classic design with approachable playability, it offers a refined experience for golfers seeking thoughtful, engaging rounds close to Edison, New Jersey.

Course Overview

Situated just a short drive from Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers a privately maintained challenge that blends classic parkland style with a refined golfing experience. This 18-hole layout demands precision with its well-placed bunkers and gently undulating greens that reward thoughtful course management. Mature trees line many fairways, framing each shot while adding a quiet focus to play. The course’s rolling terrain lends subtle elevation changes that influence club selection and shot shape, making it a compelling test for golfers of all skill levels who appreciate strategy over sheer distance.

Plainfield’s design encourages an approach that balances risk and reward. The variety in hole lengths from the back tees ensures that low handicaps will find ample challenge, while tee boxes designed for less experienced players help keep the round enjoyable. The greens are moderately fast with subtle breaks, providing a true putting surface that emphasizes pace control. Though the layout preserves its traditional parkland characteristics, several par-4s stretch out enough to surface demanding tee shots that test both distance and accuracy.

Beyond the course itself, the club features a stately clubhouse that serves as a social hub for members, complemented by dining facilities that overlook fairways where attentive service enhances the day’s experience. Amenities include practice areas with putting greens and a driving range, supporting warm-up routines and longer-term improvement.

Walking is welcome and encouraged; the terrain flows smoothly without steep climbs, offering a comfortable stroll even during warmer months. Golf carts are available but many members enjoy the course on foot to absorb the calm setting and focus on shot execution. The course is best visited in spring through fall when conditions showcase lush fairways and consistently maintained greens.

Plainfield Country Club’s blend of traditional design, mature natural elements, and thoughtful playability creates a rewarding golf venue that respects the game’s fundamentals while inviting players to engage with both mind and muscle.

We ate lunch at the Salted Brick for the first time and it was delicious! Our server was super nice and the view was great. Very nice country club setting. We will be back especially when it gets warmer to sit on the gorgeous patio.

Food does not come out of the kitchen consistently both in quantity and quality. Staff is slow. Limited menu. Not everyone can eat fish. Only open 4 ½ days a week. Bartenders are on top of things! Ambience is great.
