Course Overview
Plainfield Country Club presents golfers with an 18-hole championship layout that balances strategic challenge and broad playability within a private setting. Located just outside Edison, New Jersey, this course offers a refined parkland experience defined by mature trees, well-contoured fairways, and greens receptive to shot-making of all levels. The landscape encourages thoughtful club selection, where precision often rewards more than pure distance. The course’s routing cleverly integrates natural elevation changes that subtly influence ball flight and stance, keeping players attentive without overwhelming less experienced golfers.
At approximately 6,800 yards with a par of 72, Plainfield’s design appeals to a wide spectrum, from emerging players seeking an inviting pace to skilled competitors hunting a test of accuracy and course management. The fairway bunkers guard key landing areas with measured menace, while the greens demand careful reads due to their subtle breaks and varied speeds. Those planning a visit should bring a reliable wedge and a deft putting touch to navigate the shifting contours and occasional wind patterns that suggest the course’s openness.
Beyond the course itself, Plainfield Country Club's clubhouse offers a welcoming environment featuring modern amenities that complement the golf experience. Members benefit from well-appointed facilities, including dining spaces that overlook the course and provide a calm retreat after play. Walking is encouraged, with gently rolling terrain and well-maintained cart paths that ease navigation. Footwear with good support is recommended, especially during wetter months when sections near the lower elevations hold moisture longer.
For those interested in joining, access is by invitation only, emphasizing a community atmosphere oriented toward quality and tradition. Arranging play requires member sponsorship, ensuring personalized attention and a smooth scheduling process. Whether it's a casual round during daylight flexibility or a more focused competitive day, Plainfield delivers a setting that respects the game’s nuances while maintaining an accessible character.
Preparation and timing are key; spring and fall provide particularly crisp playing conditions with fewer crowds, ideal for both first-timers and returning members eager for a consistently rewarding round.
Course Highlights
The course features a classic parkland layout with mature hardwood trees framing fairways and greens. Strategic bunkering protects key landing zones, creating risk-reward options on many holes. Slight elevation changes add complexity to shot selection without excessive penalty. The clubhouse serves as a social hub, presenting dining with scenic course vistas.

Excellent course and staff, we loved our first experience at Newport Country Club. Fairly priced, good food and drinks afterwards. Challenging layout even more playing from the Blues, there were very wet conditions due to historic rainfalls but the course management had the course playing well for conditions. We hope to be back in the future!

Spectacular view of the lake and hills! Fantastic french fries, great clam chowder...and it is open for lunch when many other nearby restaurants are closed. (Open to the public, golfing not required)

Nice staff. Pretty good food, but that Jalapeño burger has not a bit of spice to it. Beautiful views on the deck.

A dream, a fantasy! Played 9 with my best gal, Cathy, riding shotgun, watching my ball and taking video. No one ahead or behind us; it seemed it was our private course and what condition. Felt as if we were walking in an arboretum! Pro Matt Hibbert was cordial and helpful while asking questions and buying apparel. Sure Matt will advise best times to play and sure will help with lessons 👍 😉.
