Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club, located just outside Edison, New Jersey, offers a private, 18-hole championship layout that challenges players while providing an inviting atmosphere for a wide range of golfers. The course unfolds across gently rolling parkland terrain, with tree-lined fairways that both frame and defend each hole. Mature hardwoods and evergreens punctuate the landscape, creating a calm backdrop that holds both visual appeal and strategic interest. Careful design has balanced challenge with playability, making the course suitable for both seasoned low handicappers and members seeking a thoughtful yet engaging round.

The routing flows naturally, with well-placed bunkers and subtle elevation changes shaping risk-reward decisions throughout your round. Greens are known for their true roll and firm, swift surfaces, demanding precise approach shots and careful putting. Several holes engage water hazards that run alongside key fairways, introducing an element of tension that tests course management without overwhelming less experienced players.

Players will find the course well-maintained year-round, with maintenance crews attentive to the finer details of turf and bunkers. The clubhouse serves as a comfortable hub for pre-round preparation and post-round relaxation, offering locker rooms, dining spaces, and a pro shop stocked for every gear need. Although the club restricts access to members and their guests, those fortunate enough to experience it enjoy a setting that balances tradition and challenge.

Walkers will appreciate smooth cart paths and a layout that, while demanding stamina, rewards concentrated focus and deliberate shot-making. Seasonal conditions in Central New Jersey mean spring and fall offer the most pleasant playing weather. The course’s design emphasizes thoughtful shot strategy rather than raw length, delivering a rewarding experience that encourages repeat play and steady improvement.

Plainfield Country Club stands as a strong example of classic parkland golf, where the terrain guides the design and every hole offers a fresh puzzle. Its blend of scenic tranquility and competitive opportunity attracts golfers who appreciate a private club environment attentive to both quality and the game’s enduring traditions.

The conditions were near perfect. The one star rating is due to one of their greens keepers, who yelled at us at the top of his lungs for parking the cart 2 feet from the path. To be fair, the clubhouse asked my partner to stay off grass on certain holes. The response was a bit terrifying, as this person was angry as could be, over a relatively minor thing. He yelled at us for 6 minutes, ripped out bags off the cart and tried to make us walk back. We were trying to calm him down until his boss arrived, but he wasn't having it . A similar thing happened to us last year with the same guy. I wonder how many other people experienced this guy's rage. Was fully refunded

Nice solid course. Not an easy walk for the older players. Only take cash but atm on site...if you don't mind paying to get your own money.

Challenging holes and pitched greens make this course a handful. It's in great condition. Make sure you pay homage to the golf squirrel on #16.

Great shape, The large pines are gorgeous and the layout is quite challenging and easy course to walk. Oh, did I mention that the price is right also. I would bring my 5 handicap friends there without hesitation.

The fairways and greens are well maintained. It seems like they pay loads of attention to those vs updating other things, like the archaic golf carts and cart paths. The carts and paths are terrible. If you didn’t start your round with back issues, you’ll sure have them after. The grounds/greens keepers are always at it. Yeah it’s great but… Noise and in the way is a constant at this course. I’ve never been out there when there wasn’t an employee out there. There’s also no divot replacer bottles on the carts or anywhere else. The price is right, but it gets busy. Also, the greens are wonderfully challenging. I’ll play here again, but for sure I’ll be walking.
