Course Overview
Plainfield Country Club, located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, offers a classic 18-hole championship layout set in a gently rolling parkland landscape. The course, open exclusively to members, embraces a traditional design that rewards strategic shot-making over raw power. Mature hardwoods frame each fairway, subtly influencing play by shaping approach angles and requiring thoughtful club selection. Well-maintained bentgrass greens present receptive and moderately contoured surfaces, providing a satisfying challenge to putters of all skill levels.
From the first tee, golfers encounter an inviting atmosphere where the terrain encourages precision and touch rather than brute force. Fairways are generous but guarded by discreet bunkering and natural runoff areas, promoting intelligent navigation. The mid-round stretch draws particular attention with several holes bending around tree lines and small ponds that come into play, demanding accuracy and patience.
This private club balances tradition with comfort. The recently updated clubhouse, offering casual dining and a pro shop stocked with essentials, supports a community atmosphere while catering to serious golfers. Walking is encouraged across the entire course, and wide cart paths allow those who prefer a vehicle an easy, unobtrusive way to move between holes. Shoes with solid traction are recommended, especially during wetter months when footing can shift on sloping fairways.
Playability here is designed to invite engagement from varied skill levels. While the layout provides enough challenge for low handicaps aiming to test course management, it also remains approachable for mid and higher handicap players seeking an enjoyable round without relentless punishment. The quiet setting allows players to focus on shot execution amid the gentle sounds of chirping birds and breeze through the treetops.
For members and guests, Plainfield Country Club delivers a golf experience that honors traditions of the game within a serene setting not far from urban conveniences, making it a distinguished destination in the Central New Jersey golf scene.
Course Highlights
The course features strategic bunkering and intersecting water hazards that challenge shot placement without overwhelming players. nice quiet laid back 9 hole spot, great for a quick swing or practice round. course was a bit rough but the greens were suprisingly in great shape. nothing special but exactly what im looking for sometimes.

Would have loved to play except they forgot to tell me there was a tournament on a Saturday before we drove up from New Jersey. How does a place with no tee times have a tournament on a Saturday???

Friendly staff and well kept grounds. Has a nice little putting green, but wish they had a driving range or even a net to warm up on.

If I complimented any part of this course, I'd be lying. Tees, fairways, bunkers, greens, they're all in poor condition. To finish with a positive, they have a bar. I do not recommend the golf course.
