Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers a refined 18-hole parkland course blending strategic shot-making with approachable playability. With mature trees lining its fairways and carefully placed hazards, it delivers a classic New Jersey experience favored by private members seeking a rewarding challenge.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club, located just minutes from Edison in New Jersey, presents a classic 18-hole championship layout designed for private membership play. The course combines traditional parkland styling with mature tree-lined fairways and subtle undulations, creating a setting that challenges the strategic golfer without alienating those still developing their game. Offering a blend of length and precision, Plainfield rewards thoughtful shot-making, with several holes demanding careful navigation past well-positioned bunkers and tricky, multi-tiered greens.

The overall terrain is gently rolling, lending itself to a rhythmic pace of play that encourages focus but allows for a steady round. The fairways and greens are maintained at a high level, supporting consistent ball roll and receptive putting surfaces. While the design exhibits a traditional feel, it avoids excessive penal elements, making it approachable for mid- to low-handicap players aiming to refine accuracy and course management skills. Seasonal conditions vary, but the course’s drainage and turf quality help maintain playability through much of the year.

Amenities include a well-appointed clubhouse offering dining and locker room facilities, contributing to an environment geared toward member comfort and social engagement. Plainfield’s walking policy is accommodating, with smooth cart paths and gentle slopes making it suitable for golfers who prefer to experience the course on foot.

Among the noteworthy holes is a par-4 that bends sharply around mature hardwoods, where placement off the tee dictates the angle for an accurate approach to a green guarded by bunkers that demand precision. Water strategically comes into play on a few holes, not by overwhelming the landscape but by adding subtle risk-reward decisions that elevate the strategic element.

Plainfield Country Club balances tradition with a fair and engaging test of golf that appeals primarily to private club members and their guests. For golfers seeking a course that demands control over brute force, and values thoughtful shot selection, it offers a rewarding, classic New Jersey golf experience just outside the bustle of Edison.

Course Highlights

Plainfield’s course stands out for its classic parkland layout marked by mature hardwoods, multi-tiered greens, and strategically placed bunkering. The rolling topography emphasizes shot control, especially around challenging par-4s and par-5s where accuracy off the tee sets the stage for scoring opportunities. Water hazards appear sparingly, serving as subtle strategic obstacles rather than dominant features. The clubhouse amenities support a private club atmosphere focused on tradition and member comfort.

We recently held a celebration of life at the Mt. Shasta Resort, and special events coordinator, Rebecca Brown, and her crew were fantastic!! Rebecca is extremely detail-oriented and organized, and our room was ready as promised on the day of our event. Also, the woman in charge of the food, Anne, put together a nicely displayed and tasty buffet, and the event crew, including Maya, were also top-notch!! I highly recommend booking your event at the Mt. Shasta Resort.

The location is great. The rooms are large and very quiet. Good water pressure and heater works well. But the rooms desperately need some upgrades… the beds squeak so much , just a person rolling over in bed, wakes you up. The floors creak also. The shower amenities are lame, no conditioner and that shampoo is cheap. There are stains on the carpet. We have stayed in room 203 and room 202, same issues. Also there is an issue with the key slider on the door, both nights our keys stopped working….. and that’s very frustrating. Our key Worked at 5 pm and then not at 7 pm. So you have to drive back to the main lodge which is over a mile away to get keys fixed. And after 8 pm no one is at the lodge front desk, so you have to call and then to wait for maintenance to come and reset a key…. Which is about a 30 minute process…..There was another woman with the same issue last night, she had just checked in, key didn’t work. I hope the management sees this review. This is a great place but there has got to be a better system for the room keys and hopefully some upgrades are in the future.

Stopped to have a drink after a long hike, place looks really nice. We'll probably play golf there on Monday.

I didn’t stay here. I had dinner here. Great dinner. Steamed clams are a favorite of mine and they had them here. I could see a view of Mt Shasta from my table. The outside of the resort was totally lacking in charm but once I entered the building totally top notch.

What a beautiful place to rest, relax, golf, enjoy nature, and get an absolutely amazing facial at the spa. This is one of our favorite places to stay in Shasta. The rooms are huge with kitchens, living room areas, great beds, and large decks with gorgeous views. We don’t bother housekeeping when we travel so we are just fine with the minimal service. We love how we can park and walk to amazing trails. If you golf, it is a nice play I’ve heard. My FAVORITE part is the spa. I’ve had the best facial ever at this spa. My hubby likes the masseuse. I even make the 3.5 hour drive from our home just to get a facial. And if you need to rent the facilities Rebecca is wonderful.
