Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club presents a classic 18-hole parkland course just outside Edison, New Jersey. Known for its carefully maintained fairways, strategic bunkering, and a layout designed for players of varying skill, this private club offers a refined experience defined by tradition and thoughtful challenge.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club, located just minutes from Edison in Central New Jersey, offers a refined yet approachable golf experience within a classic 18-hole layout. As a private members-only course, it presents a parkland-style setting characterized by gently rolling fairways, mature hardwoods, and well-positioned bunkers that demand precision from tee to green. With a par of 72 stretching over approximately 6,700 yards, the course balances challenge and playability, making it equally appealing to mid- and low-handicap golfers seeking a competitive test and those looking to enjoy a measured round.

The course flows smoothly through a landscape where elevation changes subtly influence club selection and shot strategy. Each hole shapes a distinct challenge, from broad fairways that invite aggressive drives to contoured greens guarded by bunkers that require thoughtful approach shots. The natural contours shape several doglegs and tricky wind conditions affecting ball flight, particularly on afternoon rounds when shifting breezes come into play.

Players will appreciate the well-maintained conditions year-round, with greens that offer true roll and fairways that cushion drives and approach shots alike. The peaceful environment is complemented by understated landscaping that guides your focus to the shot ahead without distraction.

Plainfield Country Club’s clubhouse serves as a welcoming hub, offering members comfortable spaces for relaxation before or after play, with locker rooms and dining facilities that support a full day on the course. Walking the layout is encouraged, allowing players to experience the course intimately, with paths that are easy to navigate and terrain that is generally forgiving.

For those planning a visit, the course promotes a dress code consistent with its traditional standards, and caddies are available for those seeking expert guidance. Tee times are reserved for members and their guests, ensuring a controlled and personal atmosphere.

Whether seeking a rigorous warm-up before tournament play or a social round amid quiet, tree-lined fairways, Plainfield Country Club stands as a distinguished option in New Jersey’s golf landscape, marrying timeless design with thoughtful modern upkeep.

Course Highlights

The course features classic parkland design elements, including tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers serving as both challenge and visual frame, and subtly undulating greens that require precise putting. Elevation changes and occasional wind conditions add layers of complexity, particularly on the longer par-4 and par-5 holes. The clubhouse supports a refined yet relaxed atmosphere typical of longstanding private clubs in the region.

Love the challenges for a person my age. I just celebrated my 88th birthday in early May. Wish I could save $$$ and walk the course but these bones wouldn’t last much past the par 3 on the first hole!!!

Very nice course and the staff was exceptionally nice. Only negative is the tea boxes were angled and could use some work. Challenging but great place to teach young golfers

My favorite course in all of Sussex County, DE. Ever cruise down the fairway riding a skate board on steroids? Just strap you bag to one their golf boards. Just a flick of the thumb and you're flying! It's a 9 hole course with great food and vibes. Austin and Sam will take good care of you. Best golf value anywhere.

Fun course. Great to walk. Has a nice par 5, rare on an executive course. Get to use all your clubs. There are several tricky par threes. The greens are in fine shape. Best of all the people who run the course are always friendly and helpful. Only 9 holes but a great way to walk two hours.
