Course Overview
Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole private course that stretches across the rolling terrain of Central New Jersey, just minutes from Edison. This classic parkland layout balances traditional golfing challenges with accessible playability, making it a favored venue for serious players and members seeking an engaging yet approachable test of skill. The course’s fairways thread through mature hardwoods and gentle elevation changes, rewarding accuracy while offering varied shot-making opportunities on each hole.
Designed to cater primarily to members, Plainfield Country Club embraces a well-maintained landscape with strategically placed bunkers that guard the greens and subtle undulations that influence shot selection and putting strokes. The front nine encourages precision with tighter fairways framed by trees, while the back nine incorporates slightly wider landing areas but introduces water hazards and deeper bunkering to elevate the challenge. Par yards provide a balanced golfing experience, appealing to low to mid-handicap players without intimidating beginners who benefit from generous teeing options.
The clubhouse acts as a comfortable hub for members, featuring updated amenities that include a pro shop, locker rooms, dining facilities, and spaces for social gatherings. Plainfield maintains a walking-friendly policy, encouraging players to engage fully with the course’s rhythm while enjoying the natural sounds and movements of the environment. Golf carts are available but walking is a favored choice among members wishing to embrace a classic golf experience.
Scenery at Plainfield is unpretentious but inviting: mature trees frame most holes, delivering shade and a sense of enclosure without overpowering the course’s open sightlines. Seasonal changes bring striking contrasts, from the vibrant greens of summer to the subtle browns and golds of fall, making each round a distinct experience.
Players approaching Plainfield should bring attention to shot placement, especially near greens where contours affect roll and approach strategy. The course’s measured difficulty promotes strategic play rather than brute power, rewarding thoughtful course management. For those visiting or considering membership, Plainfield Country Club offers a dependable and engaging golf environment that combines tradition with comfort in Central New Jersey.
Course Highlights
The course is defined by its traditional parkland style with mature hardwoods lining fairways and bunkers that effectively challenge greenside approaches. The back nine introduces water hazards that require strategic play, especially on holes 10 through 14 and the finishing hole 18, which offers a rewarding view of the clubhouse. Plainfield’s layout emphasizes shot placement over raw distance, making it a thoughtful test of golf.

Course is in excellent condition. Great track as well. We came today (first time at GCD) for a 6:09pm 9-hole tee time off the back 9, which appeared to be the most expensive tee time for the day. For the entirety of our play, the sprinklers were going off on the fairways, in front of greens and even on the green on one hole. Staff drove by in carts and did nothing about it. Super disappointed by this.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception here! Could not recommend enough! The location is stunning. We loved having the ceremony outside with the pergola behind us and you can see the lake. The cocktail hour was both under the tent and on the lawn. We went inside for the reception and got to enjoy the view with all the gorgeous windows. Mainly, we LOVED working with Keri. We initially worked with Lisa who went to a different venue, and we had loved Lisa so Keri had big shoes to fill :) But she did it with ease! Literally every little thing we wanted - Keri made it happen. We really wanted our pets included in our special day, and we made little polaroids to clip on the cocktail hour glasses. We did signature cocktails with unique ingredients like mint and St Germain! Anytime we asked for a request she got back to us promptly and kindly with a yes! She is also just a very lovely person to work with in general. There was a slight miscommunication with the chef where our vegetarian meals were made vegan instead of vegetarian, so they were not quite as delicious as when they had the cream sauce - but this was such a minor thing that it wasnt even an issue!! Everyone loved the meal and had a splendid time. Golf Club of Dublin will have a very special place in our heart :)

Played 10/21/2023 and this course is pure and amazing. Incredible layout and great shape for end of season as well. Staff was really welcoming, let them know I came from Youngstown around 2.5 hour drive to play with my buddy and was his birthday and they were awesome. Carts are fantastic, love not having to use a range finder when playing due to the incredible break down of the hole and even the green reading map gps in cart. I will 100% be back as soon as possible. This course is definitely not easy, lots of water and great bunker placement as well. If you have not been, it is a MUST PLAY course in Ohio.

Played middle of October for the first time. Course was in INCREDIBLE shape - well manicured, greens fast and true, rough was thick but fair. Riveted faced bunkers are a really cool visual - fortunately I didn’t hit in any of them, but appeared in great shape as well. Course is American links style, but the bunkers do add a little euro flavor to it. The entire course works its way thru a housing development - which I know some people don’t like - but that being said, has a nice layout. Some of the holes at least offer some protection from the homes with trees and the tall grass, but some holes are fully exposed to the houses. That didn’t take away from the experience for me at all, but I know some don’t like courses that close to housing developments. It’s definitely a course you can score on if you keep it in play. Fairways are pretty generous, but the trouble is usually water/trees/tall grass. Greens are big and have lots of slope, so you have to miss in the right spots. Even from the back tees, many of the par 4’s will leave short clubs in. There are a few long ones as well though. The back 9 has much more water in play than the front. 10-14 all have water come into play. Then 18 as well. 18 has a great view of the clubhouse - which is an awesome building - a great finishing hole. Clubhouse was really nice and up to date. We didn’t eat at the restaurant, but it looked very nice, and there were people sitting outside eating because it was so nice out. The only downside was I played as a single, and caught up to a threesome by hole 10. Even tho there was no one in front, they never let me thru, despite me repeatedly waiting for them on each tee box. Other than that, the experience was great, and worth the 90 minute drive. The twilight price was exceptional!

Had a 5:30 tee time, got stuck behind kids, played a 3 hour first 9 holes. Then they wouldn’t give me a voucher for 9 holes because it was too late of a tee time. Course is nice but service is subpar all around. Paid $75 to play 9 holes of golf. P.S. they make you pay $15 for bringing a rider. $75 FOR 9 HOLES WITH NO VOUCHER?!!

A challenging course for mid to high handicappers. Well maintained and a variety of hole layouts. Would play again.

Our company hosted an event recently and Keri and the team did a fantastic job! Even when things needed to be adjusted, they jumped right on it and made everything work!
