Plainfield Country Club
Plainfield Country Club delivers a classic 18-hole parkland-style course distinguished by strategic bunkering and mature tree-lined fairways. Its approachable layout invites golfers of varying skill levels to engage with thoughtful design and well-maintained conditions just outside Edison, New Jersey.
Course Overview
Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers a classic private golf experience shaped across 18 holes of traditional parkland-style layout. The course stretches over approximately 6,700 yards with a par of 72, rewarding precision and strategic shot-making more than sheer power. Mature trees line the fairways, creating natural corridors that demand thoughtful positioning from tee to green. Water hazards and well-placed bunkers contribute to an engaging test for golfers, inviting a measured approach on nearly every hole.
The peaceful setting combines manicured turf with gentle elevation changes, allowing subtle breaks on fast, true greens to challenge putting skills without overwhelming. Members describe the course as rewarding to a broad range of handicaps, with enough variety in hole lengths and angles to keep both mid and low handicappers engaged. While not a mountainous or coastal layout, the course’s rolling terrain provides visual interest and forces players to respect club selection throughout the round.
Plainfield Country Club’s facilities include a historic clubhouse that serves as a central gathering point, featuring dining and locker rooms designed with member comfort in mind. Walking the course is encouraged; footwear grips well on the modest slopes, but players should be prepared for a occasionally uneven footing through wooded sections. Golf carts are available but many members prefer to stroll, embracing a quieter pace of play.
The course’s blend of classic design and natural woodland setting stands out in the New Jersey golf landscape. Bunkers that guard the greens remain consistently maintained, presenting straightforward hazards rather than penal traps. The absence of excessive length favors strategic accuracy, making Plainfield Country Club a refined option for players looking to sharpen scoring skills away from the glaring spotlight of high-profile championship venues. Every round here feels like a thoughtful negotiation with the land, rewarding those who balance patience with precision.
For anyone granted access by membership or invitation, Plainfield Country Club presents a dependable challenge marked by thoughtful course management and the quiet camaraderie of a private setting. It remains a distinguished choice for golfers seeking a traditional private layout with a welcoming, approachable character.

Beautiful course, staff were great and friendly. Greens are big and fast. Will definitely play again next time I'm in Asheville.

Legit Don Ross course. Unusually short so leave your driver at home. 5th hole you want to stay straight, traffic on the right with no tree cover or nets. Fairways and greens were in great shape, but traps need to be redone, most are washed out. Staff was friendly, fun round.

Course was in great condition for early season. Staff were all very nice. Greens were fast and rolling true. A great option for a non private course!

A very fun and quick course if you don’t get people in front of you. Lots of walkers and with a lot of hills means a little slow play if you get stuck behind them. The staff is pleasant and friendly. Players generally let you go through if you’re by yourself. There are a ton of balls in the grass bushes.. I think I left some souvenirs myself :)
