Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole championship golf experience located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey. As a private, members-only club, it presents a traditional parkland layout where mature trees and manicured fairways frame each hole. The course demands thoughtful shot-making without overreaching into punishing territory, making it accessible to a range of skill levels while still challenging low handicappers with strategic hazards and well-kept greens.

The routing unfolds through gently rolling terrain, where elevation changes add subtle complexity to club selection and approach shots. Bunkers strategically placed around the greens serve both as hazards and visual markers, encouraging precise iron play. Water comes into play on select holes, offering moments that test driving accuracy and course management. The landscape’s quiet presence invites concentration amid a serene setting that distinctly reflects the region’s golf heritage.

Members and guest players can enjoy a clubhouse facility that supports both casual and competitive golf, providing dining options and event spaces suitable for social gatherings or tournaments. Walking is encouraged on the course, with well-maintained cart paths ensuring smooth transitions between holes. Comfortable golf shoes are recommended due to the modest elevation shifts and natural terrain underfoot.

I don’t like writing negative reviews, but I feel I need to warn other golfers of Mid Ocean. I’ve played well over a hundred golf courses, and I have to say that Mid Ocean is one of the worst I have played in my life. Why? Because there is no value in playing here: it has a layout of a municipal course, and to rent clubs and play here costs over $500 per player. Mid Ocean is a pretty course, and the greens and bunkers were in good shape. However, the whole island of Bermuda is gorgeous, so if you want the views, then take a walk on the island. Mid Ocean’s layout itself is quite boring (parallel fairways, minimal bunkers that aren’t in play, lack of hazards, etc.). Also, the driving range is awful (limited-flight balls you hit way downhill and don’t get to see where they land). If you want pretty views AND a good layout, go play Kiawah, Sea Island, Whistling Straits, Wolf Creek, The Links at Spanish Bay, or Tidewater (North Myrtle Beach… regarding layout, I could name 50 courses in Myrtle better than Mid Ocean). If you have money to burn, then play here. Otherwise, save your money and go take a nice golf trip somewhere else.

What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! First the cost for two people with rental clubs was $1,045.00! Value = 0. The course layout gets a 1 - it reminded me of a municipal course. Fairways run parallel on many holes and tee boxes are right next to the greens on many holes. Municipal course. The greens and fairways get a 4+. The tee boxes a 2. The course might have 5 or 6 holes where you can see water (which was gorgeous), the other holes saw houses or jungle. If this course cost under $200 it might be worth it. In SC, I play courses nicer than MOC for about $60. Unless you have money to burn, skip playing here.

What can I say? I got the chance to play here before the #WorldPar3 and am so glad I did. What a treat. The views here are breathtaking and the course is unforgettable. Just look at the photos of this place... While in Bermuda, make sure you play The Mid Ocean Club. You won’t be sorry.

Beautiful course along the water! The course is rather short, but requires shot-making to navigate.
