Rocky Point Golf Course

Tampa, Florida, USACentral Florida

Rocky Point Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout distinguished by its coastal Florida setting and balanced challenge for golfers of all abilities. With water-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and firm greens, it blends approachable playability with moments that test precision and touch.

Course Overview

Rocky Point Golf Course situates itself as an inviting public 18-hole track that appeals to a broad range of golfers seeking an engaging round with coastal flair. Located just minutes from downtown Tampa, this course unfolds across a gently rolling layout framed by water hazards, towering palms, and pockets of native Florida foliage. While not a lengthy test, its design challenges players with strategic tee shots and well-placed bunkers that guard many of the firm, fast greens. The course demands precision, particularly on approaches where subtle breaks and undulations require attentive reading, rewarding those with deft touch.

The terrain reflects a classic Florida atmosphere that captures both the heat and breezes typical of the region, adding a dynamic element that keeps each hole fresh and requiring adaptable shot-making. Rocky Point’s fairways are generally wide but narrow in places, inviting thoughtful club selection and shot shaping to avoid the water and preserve scoring opportunities.

This venue provides accessible conditions for players at most skill levels, though the greens set a moderate challenge that keeps even lower handicaps engaged. A round here offers a blend of relaxing views and moments that call for strategic thinking without overwhelming novices. The layout flows smoothly, though golfers should allow extra time on weekends due to popular local play and occasional pace of play delays.

Amenities include a well-maintained practice facility and a friendly clubhouse that offers the essentials for a comfortable visit. The staff’s knowledge of local playing conditions adds value, although the course does see heavy use, which may impact tee time flexibility. Rocky Point excels as a convenient, value-focused destination for Tampa area golfers hunting a solid coastal course that balances charm with challenge.

Planning a visit, players should prepare for shifting winds off Tampa Bay and consider walking when weather permits to better experience the natural surroundings. Footwear with good traction is a smart choice as some of the greenside areas retain moisture longer after rain. Whether teeing off for a casual round or testing their short game skills, Rocky Point delivers an approachable yet stimulating golf experience within easy reach of urban hubs.

Course Highlights

Water hazards prominently influence strategy across multiple holes, especially mid-course. The course exhibits a classic Florida coastal aesthetic with palm-lined fairways and scenic bay views. Firm and undulated greens provide variety in putting challenges, while several tee boxes accommodate a broad spectrum of player skill levels. Though not architecturally renowned, the course combines natural elements with thoughtful routing to create an engaging golf experience.

Beautiful course with great greens and well-maintained fairways. The layout is fun but can be a bit dangerous—many holes are close together, so be alert for flying balls in all directions. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, a good value and enjoyable round, just play with caution!

Always enjoy this course. Great value for the cost. Regardless of some course blemishes, still need to hit good shots with fair challenges along the way. Shout out to Jim and his staff for helping me with a receipt issue 2 weeks ago.

My experience here was terrible. My girlfriends and I booked a tee time early in the morning on a Tuesday, behind all the larger league groups. We showed up and the groups told us we could go first, despite us telling them that we weren’t very good. We were keeping up with the pace of play, but several of the employees came out of golf carts and HARASSED us all the way through the first 5 or 6 holes. One guy told us we should get off the course! We told them multiple times that the large group could play through, but they didn’t… seemingly just to make a point and scare us away. We finally insisted on waiting until there was nobody behind us and only then did we get to enjoy our game. It was a terrible experience. Go to Countryway instead. Especially, if you’re a group of women golfing without men. It’s better maintained and they are so friendly.

Spoke with Sandy over the phone the morning of 6/10. She was beyond hateful and so rude. I can’t believe she got hired for the receptionist position. If you aren’t having a lot of business/ people joining the club, it’s probably because of her!

No bueno. course is in ugly shape. also opposing fairways are so close to each other I wont be surprised if someone gets their head blown off by a bad drive. Hot dogs are good tho.

The course itself is well kept/ maintained and will result in a pleasant outing however their customer service is lacking. I reserved a T time through Golf Now and the day we played we were rained out. I requested a rain check and was told by Steve in their pro shop that their policy was not to give rain checks to those that reserved through Golf Now. It’s ironic that Golf Now helps them generate business by filling slots although albeit at a low rate and they will not offer their Golf Now customers rain checks although in general they do provide them. Every other course I have played on in Florida will offer a rain check when rained out. They ought to review their policy regarding customers that book through Golf Now.

The Course is a relaxed and scenic track near the coast, surrounded by water and palm trees that give it a true Florida feel. The course is generally well-maintained and playable for most skill levels, though the tee boxes could use some attention. The greens aren’t easy — they’re a bit tricky and require good touch and reading. The layout isn’t overly long, but a few holes are tighter or more strategic, which keeps things interesting. Pace of play was slow during my visit, but that’s probably to be expected on a Saturday. Staff are friendly, facilities are solid, and the value for money is excellent. Overall, Rocky Point is a great spot for a casual but engaging round if you’re in the area.

Horrible employees. Drinking at the bar when tee times are available yet they won’t let anyone out. Glad this establishment didn’t get my money.
