Countryway Golf Club

Tampa, Florida, USACentral Florida

Countryway Golf Club offers an approachable, executive-style 18-hole course featuring short par-3s and select par-4s. Its compact layout supports quick rounds and a focus on precision, making it a practical choice for beginners and casual players in Tampa.

Course Overview

Countryway Golf Club in Tampa, Florida, delivers an intimate golfing encounter shaped by its executive-style layout, blending accessibility with subtle challenges for players seeking a brisk yet engaging round. This 18-hole course is defined by its shorter par-3s and select par-4 holes, making it distinctly approachable for beginners and players looking to sharpen their short game without the endurance test of longer layouts. While not sprawling in length, its design demands thoughtful shot selection, particularly on tighter fairways where precision overrides power.

The course unfolds within a compact footprint that allows golfers to engage in an efficient loop, perfect for those limited on time or eager for a post-work round. Surrounding vegetation and occasional wildlife sightings—a turtle or bird gliding just overhead—introduce moments of calm that contrast with the focused rhythm of golf shots. The greens, modest in size, emphasize finesse and putting accuracy, though recent reports highlight surface wear and maintenance challenges that might affect smoothness.

Facilities at Countryway support a relaxed atmosphere. The clubhouse provides basic amenities while the friendly staff contribute to a welcoming environment uncommon in larger commercial venues. Though the course can become bustling during peak times, especially midday, players often find that it encourages social interaction and a community feel among regulars.

Walking is practical here due to the course’s compact layout, though tight tee-to-green proximities require awareness to maintain pace and safety. Golf carts are available but not mandatory, offering optional comfort for guests.

Countryway’s appeal derives from its straightforward, no-frills approach to golf—less a testing championship and more a place to enjoy quick rounds, practice, and lighthearted competition. Ideal for novices and those working on foundational skills, it provides tangible value in Tampa’s busy golf scene. Planning for less crowded tee times and considering off-peak visits can enhance the experience, ensuring players move smoothly through the course and savor the blend of playability and community spirit it promotes.

Course Highlights

Executive-style layout combining mostly par-3 holes with a few short par-4s offers a unique test focused on precision. Tight fairways demand accuracy off the tee. The course’s intimate scale invites quick rounds and social connectivity. Natural wildlife sightings add to the casual charm.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. This is without a doubt one of the worst courses I have ever played; easily the worst in the Tampa area and it's not close. I understand it's designed as an executive course, so just par 3s with a few short 4s sprinkled in, but the lack of variety in the holes was incredibly noticable. Half of par 3s play less than 110 yards. Pace of play was atrocious. 3 groups on every tee box. The second hole was closed so we went straight to 3 after playing 1 to find four groups on that tee box. Waited 30 minutes between holes 1 and 3. No Marshall on the course to keep things moving. The greens have all been affected by some kind of fungus. There are more bare spots than green grass. With greens that are no more than 30' in diameter a 2-putt should be all but assured on most holes if you have a halfway decent flat stick, but they were unplayable. Final note: It. Is. Tight. The tee boxes are within 15-20 feet of the green of the previous hole more often than not. Save your money.

Showed up to the first tee box right at our tee time, had to wait for 4 groups in front of us. Countryway does not care about people showing up on time, so may as well show up whenever you want. We also were stuck behind a group of 8 people, who some how kept pace with a group of 2 in front of them. A par 63 course took us 5 hours and 15 minutes to finish. This course is the definition of a joke; Feels like the course is managed by high schoolers. The tee boxes are also the definition of awful. Will never play again, and I pray you read this review and never come to this course

Beautiful course, not long or hard but you have to play well to score low. Super nice staff. Some days may be a bit busy but then you enjoy the beauty of the course longer :-)

We had a great time at the course. It has a variety of par three and par four holes. It was very reasonably priced and the staff were helpful.

We booked online for two people to play 18 holes, when we came and checked in no one said anything about us each having to have our own set of clubs (i share my fiances clubs). When we got to the first hole the golf cart attendant approached us and said I would have to rent clubs in order to play so we decided I would just watch and ride the golf cart. The rest of our time the ranger rode behind us and watched us on every hole to make sure I didn't hit a ball. The staff is unfriendly at a course that is terribly maintained.

My foursome Always had a great time, in fact, on the 10th hole. I made a hole in one and my best friend painted me a picture of it. I'm listing that picture here.
