Mt. Massive Golf Course

Leadville, Colorado, USACentral Colorado Rockies

Mt. Massive Golf Course offers an accessible 9-hole mountain layout in Leadville, Colorado, set at over 10,000 feet elevation. Its wide fairways and alpine setting create a player-friendly experience with stunning mountain views and a touch of challenge from high-altitude conditions.

Course Overview

Located in the heart of Leadville, Colorado, Mt. Massive Golf Course offers a unique high-altitude golfing experience unlike any other in North America. This 9-hole layout, set at over 10,000 feet above sea level, challenges players with its elevated terrain and crisp mountain air. While compact compared to traditional courses, its wide fairways and limited rough provide a forgiving environment for beginners, yet the out-of-bounds markers and strategic hole designs introduce enough complexity to keep more experienced golfers engaged.

The course’s design reflects practicality and accessibility. Its shorter holes encourage a variety of shot selections, making it an inviting place for those new to the game or casual players seeking scenic recreation. The altitude naturally increases ball flight distance, allowing players to enjoy longer drives—a rare thrill that can boost confidence and add an element of excitement to each round.

Surrounding the fairways, the rugged Colorado landscape unfolds with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, offering both a visual reward and shifting breezes that require players to manage club selection with care. Though modest in scale, the course captures the essence of mountain golf with its brisk winds and the occasional dramatic weather changes.

Facilities at Mt. Massive support a relaxed atmosphere: rentals are available for clubs, and the friendly staff enhance the welcoming environment for visitors. The clubhouse grill serves as a comfortable spot for post-round conversations and refueling. Seasonal conditions affect playability—golf carts are typically restricted during colder months when snow covers the ground, and walking is recommended year-round to fully appreciate the course's setting.

For travelers seeking a golf outing that blends approachable play with alpine scenery and a genuine community feel, Mt. Massive is a compelling choice. Its combination of altitude, vistas, and player-friendly design make it particularly suited for casual golfers, visitors exploring Leadville, and those eager to test their game under remarkable natural conditions. Planning ahead for weather and walking the course ensures an enjoyable and memorable mountain golf experience.

Don’t waste your time or money at this course. Greens keepers and front desk were losers. This is a total tourist trap. 3 people got stuck on I70 because of a fire and road closure. Front desk made the single pay for all of them. Zero understanding. The course was empty and when the single asked to play with the group in front of them front desk said absolutely not and threatened them if they were to join. The course is in horrible conditions. The greens are a joke and the tee boxes are unplayable. It’s the “highest course in the US” but the horrible design forces you to hit 8 or 9 irons off the tee boxes. Seriously don’t waste your time or money.

Marvelous "little" golf course at a decent value. Mostly basic layout with wide fairways and limited rough - a few out of bounds make it tougher. Not as difficult as I made it play !!! At 10K feet you can really see your solid drives fly an additional 30 yards. Good for the ego but, probably rather deflating when you return to only 3K or lower. Beautiful country and a great time all around. Nice folks too !!! Would love to return again.

Great golf course! I’ve never played before but this was a great spot to go with a pretty casual atmosphere. You can rent clubs and it’s a fun course to learn on. Awesome views all around and the staff is friendly. The Grill food is pretty good as well! Worth checking out.

Great course!!! Highest in North America! Wonderful experience. My first time golfing too! There are 9 holes of different lengths and difficulties. You can golf all year but can't use the golf carts past summer since there's snow. Overall great course and great prices!

What a course! The views will keep your attention. We love taking a road trip to Leadville, staying at one of hotels in town, and playing at Mount Massive. This is a fun course, and the team there does a great job. And it's such a beautiful drive to and from the Denver area!
