Blacklake Golf Resort Bar & Grille

Nipomo, California, USACentral Coast California

Blacklake Golf Resort Bar & Grille in Nipomo, California features three distinct nine-hole courses blending water hazards, mature oaks, and open fairways in a relaxed public setting. Ideal for mid- and high-handicap golfers, it offers variety and a casual atmosphere alongside a popular on-site bar and grill.

Course Overview

Blacklake Golf Resort Bar & Grille offers a distinctive municipal golf experience set in the temperate climate of Nipomo, California. This 27-hole public facility is divided into three separate nine-hole courses—Oaks, Lakes, and Meadows—each presenting a unique character shaped by the terrain and natural features. The resort’s layout leans toward a parkland style with gentle elevation changes, mature oak trees, and water hazards that come into play on several holes, requiring thoughtful shot placement and strategic play.

Playability at Blacklake caters mainly to mid- and high-handicap golfers, though more skilled players can challenge themselves navigating the varied holes and subtle contours. The Oaks course stands out for its blend of tree-lined fairways and risk-reward opportunities near water, while the Lakes layout presents several holes bordered by ponds and wetlands that influence club selection and approach shots. Meadows offers a more open feel, with generous landing areas and forgiving contours that encourage an easier pace of play.

The course sits within a scenic, sun-drenched region just minutes inland from the Pacific coast. Players will appreciate the steady coastal breezes that can influence trajectory and distance, particularly in the afternoon. The landscape’s natural beauty is punctuated by strategically placed bunkers that guard greens and force careful navigation around the ponds.

Amenities at Blacklake include a well-regarded Bar & Grille offering casual fare and an inviting atmosphere where golfers and visitors can unwind. The expansive parking lot and cart paths provide easy access, though some reviewers note that course maintenance, particularly on fairways and greens, could improve to elevate the overall experience. Despite these concerns, the resort remains a popular choice for local players seeking value and variety.

Walking the course is possible, though the cart is recommended for comfort, especially on warmer days. Players should prepare for occasional uneven terrain in certain areas and bring appropriate footwear. The course’s flexible nine-hole rotations and accessible design make it a welcoming venue for families, groups, and those new to the game looking for an affordable and enjoyable round in a casual setting.

Overall, Blacklake Golf Resort offers a grounded, approachable golfing destination that balances relaxed charm with enough features to keep each round engaging.

The weather is amazing obviously but the course could use some work. The greens have dead sections and the fairways are pretty bad. Would be a great course if the upkeep was better.

Hold on to your cart. Won’t golf there ever again. So many pot holes. They are out of control and can’t see how they can fix them all. Thought I was going to break ribs. Golfed there many times but no more

Great location plenty of parking, minutes from oceano and AG. The music on Sundays is fun. Food and drinks are available outside. Love the fact you can park your golf cart and hang out to listen to music. Definitely need some type of shade on the warmer days whether and sun umbrella or Eze up. Bring your chair, blanket and enjoy.

Staff was friendly. Course has potential. However, it's condition is like a poorly maintained rough back yard. This is especially glaring compared to the nearby Monarch Dunes, which is superb. Both course are over priced for what they deliver, but I would do to pay 2x more to play Monarch Dunes and skip Blacklake.

First time here very nice, well maintained. Only had time for nine, played the canyons. Great experience, somewhat of a disadvantage if you haven't played here before. Couple of the tee boxes are blind but really fun course.
