Dairy Creek Golf Course

San Luis Obispo, California, USACentral California

Dairy Creek Golf Course in San Luis Obispo offers an inviting 9-hole public layout with a mix of parkland terrain and valley views. Ideal for beginners and casual players, it balances approachable playability with natural beauty and practice facilities.

Course Overview

Dairy Creek Golf Course offers an approachable yet engaging layout for golfers in San Luis Obispo seeking a casual day on the links. This 9-hole public course presents a blend of parkland and gentle rolling terrain that frames sweeping views of the surrounding hills and valley. The setting captures the natural charm of Central California’s interior landscape, with greenery weaving through the course alongside native grasses and scattered trees that add both beauty and challenge.

Players can expect a course that caters primarily to beginners and intermediate golfers, though even those looking to sharpen their short game will find value in the well-maintained greens. While the layout is modest, it provides variety with slight elevation changes and strategic bunkers positioned to test approach shots. Fairways are generous, encouraging a confident tee shot, but the greens demand careful attention to pace and break.

Dairy Creek is well known for its relaxed atmosphere, making it a popular spot for local families, students from nearby CAL POLY, and community golfers seeking a friendly round without the pressure of championship conditions. The practice facilities, including a driving range, support players who want to work on fundamentals before heading out or finishing their visit.

The course’s customer service experience has varied over time, with some visitors praising helpful staff and others noting moments of inattentiveness, particularly in food and beverage service at the range bays. Still, the golf experience itself remains a draw, especially during spring when wildflowers add bursts of color to the landscape.

Visitors should expect reasonable pace of play and are advised to book tee times in advance, as crowding during weekends can lead to delays. Walking is permitted, and the terrain is manageable for those on foot, though proper footwear is recommended due to occasional uneven ground.

Overall, Dairy Creek Golf Course provides an inviting, budget-friendly golf outing with authentic local character. Its accessible design and natural surroundings make it a gateway to golf in the San Luis Obispo region and a worthwhile stop for those visiting or residing in the area.

Always super fun. I would say my only complaint is the young gal that was working checking us in was not very social. We got there she was sitting at one of the bays just on her phone, didn’t even notice we got there. Barely exchanged any words. Took us to our bay told us someone would be back to take our order for food and drinks. No one ever showed up. So we didn’t order absolutely anything. When we walked out she was sitting on her phone and didn’t even acknowledge us leaving. I’m the one that said bye to her and thank you. I’m giving two stars only because my group had fun. I’d give a zero star for customer service. I’ve never had that minimal contact with any employee there before.

We were excited to try this out after the restaurant opened up and the regained their liquor license. Unfortunately they never came out to wait on us, I went in and ordered and they made it super awkward cause I was not sure if I was supposed to expect service, wait for My stuff or they were waiting on us. The woman that took my order made it seem like she wasn’t there to wait on us. The food was also disappointing, but I think the service could’ve made up for it had there been service in the swing time bay. Overall they need to make a decision to staff a server in the bay or not and make that clear to guests. We love coming out to hit balls so we will give it another shot. Wish it would come back to the way it was with full service in the bay.

This course is absolutely stunning in the spring time; even in the summer, it is still beautiful. I was told by a pro shop employee, named Cornell, who, when the range was closed due to ball pick up, gave me a free round in order to support me because the website had said range was open at 7am. Great staff, amazing prices, and a great place to be in San Luis Obispo. Very close to CAL POLY, and absolutely stunning views with greenery and wildlife everywhere. 9/10 recommend!

The good: Beautiful location with mountain & valley views. The course was in excellent shape with the greens well maintained. The bad: Tee times are set 8 minutes apart. We had an 11:40 time and didn't tee off until 12:00 due to the backlog. We then waited approximately 10 minutes at each hole to play. The 9 hole round took 2 hours & 53 minutes to complete.
