Course Overview

Laguna Lake Municipal Golf Course offers a refreshing, accessible golf experience in San Luis Obispo, California. This uniquely charming layout features 10 holes that blend approachable play with thoughtful variety, making it ideal for beginners, families, and players seeking a casual round. Unlike typical courses, Laguna Lake's focus on shorter holes—most ranging from 90 to 120 yards—creates an inviting environment where learning and enjoyment outweigh sheer distance. The course's design incorporates slight elevation changes and the occasional canyon shot, adding subtle challenges without overwhelming newer players.

The course’s greens stand out for their elevated positions and consistent surface, providing an enjoyable putting experience uncommon for municipal venues. While sand bunkers are absent, the layout's natural contours, grassy mounds, and surrounding vegetation help to frame each hole and shape strategic shot-making. Overhead, the coastal California air brings gentle breezes that subtly influence club selection and shot trajectory.

As a city-operated facility, Laguna Lake prioritizes value. Green fees remain low, making it an excellent choice for those looking to practice short game skills or enjoy time with friends and family without high costs. A sizable driving range supports warm-up routines, and golf carts and push carts are available for rent, supporting a comfortable visit for walkers or riders.

The grounds and staff reflect a dedication to maintaining a welcoming atmosphere despite some recent challenges, such as course maintenance interruptions and clubhouse closure following storm damage. Visitors often remark on the friendly, low-key ambiance and occasional visits from local neighborhood cats, adding a touch of community charm.

If you have limited time or are just beginning your golf journey, Laguna Lake Municipal offers a relaxed, practical setting. It holds particular appeal for local residents and newcomers looking to enjoy the game without the demands of championship-length layouts or complicated hazards. Whether on a quick break or an afternoon with family, the course encourages a focus on fun and fundamentals amid the gentle rhythms of the Central California coast.

Great time with some friends, $13 for the 9holes if you’re a student. Definitely not perfect but great for beginners or casual games

Unbeatable prices! Great beginner and family friendly course. We had four adults and two kids just learning. Had a fun day!

Fun and a challenge to your short game. Greens have grass issues but are still usable.

If you have an hour and you would like to hang out with friends and hit a few golf shots this is a great place. If you're looking to spend 4 and a serious golf game, go to an 18-hole course.

A simple inexpensive course run by the city. It cost us about 12 bucks a person for a regular adult 10 hole round. The course is mostly 90 to 120 yard holes, par 3's with a couple canyon shots for extra challenge. No sand traps which can be nice for beginners. Unfortunately the last couple years the course maintenance has disrupted play a little bit. The green aeration has made some of them very dry and bumpy, and their out of bounds areas have gotten overgrown enough you can lose a ball that you see every step of flight (less of a problem for players that aren't terrible like me 😋) The main clubhouse has been closed due to flooding and mold since a big storm in 2022 and hopefully will get funding to reopen. Friendly low key staff, a decent diversity of play for the price and a nice little course. Push carts and electric golf carts are available to rent. Bonus: sometimes adorable cats wander around from the nearby homes.

Cheap. Driving range is meh but it's great for practice with chipping and putting greens.

Small but fun. Need to fix up hole #2. So #1 can be full size again.

I played 12-16-2024, early morning round. It’s actually a 10 hole which was a happy surprise when walking off the 9th green. I’m rating it 5 stars not only because the course is fun and has creative hole designs. Course conditions are lush and the GREENS were excellent. The GREENS are elevated which I really enjoyed. They also have a good sized driving range! I’d give the 2 guys I met and the whole team 10 STARS cause you can tell they work hard at making it an enjoyable experience. I recommend it!!
