The Country Club of Birmingham

Mountain Brook, Alabama, USACentral Alabama

The Country Club of Birmingham offers an 18-hole private parkland course defined by mature hardwoods and strategic bunkering. Its design balances challenging play with approachability, inviting golfers to engage in a classic southern golf experience marked by careful shot-making and serene woodland surroundings.

Course Overview

The Country Club of Birmingham presents a distinguished 18-hole layout that caters to seasoned golfers and approachable enough for a range of skill levels. Located along Country Club Road in Mountain Brook, Alabama, this private club provides a timeless golf experience set within mature hardwoods and gently rolling terrain that shapes each hole with subtle complexity. The course’s design emphasizes shot placement and strategic play without overwhelming less-experienced players, delivering a rhythm that challenges tempo and accuracy over raw power.

Fairways sweep between towering oaks and maples, while well-placed bunkers guard the greens, which reward thoughtful approach shots and steady putting. The parkland setting creates a quiet atmosphere where the main distractions are the precise handling of undulating lies and the occasional gust that tests your club selection. Players find a satisfying balance of challenge and flow, whether maneuvering doglegs or reading greens that shift subtly with the landscape.

As a private members-only facility, the Country Club of Birmingham maintains pristine course conditions year-round. The meticulously maintained greens and fairways reflect a commitment to quality and tradition. While the club atmosphere is warm and inviting, golf remains at the forefront, making it a haven for players who appreciate classic southern golf environments paired with attentive service elements.

The clubhouse sits near the first tee, offering welcoming spaces for pre-round preparation and post-round relaxation. With facilities supporting both casual rounds and competitive play, this venue is as suited to honing skills as it is to expanding social connections. Walking the course is encouraged, with well-kept paths and gentle slopes allowing for enjoyable movement throughout the round. Sturdy footwear is advisable given occasional damp conditions from southern weather.

For golfers planning a visit as guests, understanding the private nature of the club and arranging invitations ahead ensures a seamless experience. The Country Club of Birmingham combines tradition, thoughtful course architecture, and quiet woodland scenery into a golfing day that rewards focus and enjoyment equally.

Course Highlights

The course features classic parkland routing with strategic bunker placement around the greens, mature native hardwood trees bordering fairways, and gently rolling topography that influences shot selection. A highlight is a par-4 with a sweeping dogleg right that demands precision off the tee, testing players’ ability to control trajectory and club choice. The clubhouse’s proximity to the opening hole allows a smooth start, while the overall course layout sustains interest through subtle elevation changes and varied green complexes.
