Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Courses
Set on Hawaii’s Big Island, Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Courses feature two 18-hole resort layouts blending volcanic terrain with ocean vistas. The South Course offers an inviting round for all skill levels, while the Classic Course challenges with tighter, traditional fairways framed by lava rock. Both courses provide memorable play in a uniquely Hawaiian setting.
Course Overview
Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Courses at Waikoloa Village offer an invigorating golf experience set against one of Hawaii’s most striking backdrops. Comprising two distinct 18-hole layouts—the South Course and the Classic Course—these resort courses blend lush fairways with dramatic volcanic terrain and sweeping ocean views. The South Course is renowned for its approachable design, winding gently through rolling hills with ample space on well-groomed fairways, making it suitable for golfers of varying skill levels. On the other hand, the Classic Course presents a more traditional parkland challenge with tighter landing areas and subtly contoured greens that reward thoughtful shot placement.
The courses’ volcanic landscape influences playability beyond scenic value, with lava rock formations occasionally framing holes and demanding accuracy off the tee. Along the oceanfront holes of the South Course, coastal breezes subtly impact club selection and shot trajectory, urging players to adapt their strategies. The well-maintained greens run true and respond with consistent speed, enhancing the satisfaction of well-executed approach shots.
Players will find a peaceful atmosphere where nature’s elements come alive—the gentle trade winds test rhythm without overpowering, and the tropical sunlight highlights the vivid contrasts between deep greens and dark volcanic rock. The club’s facilities underscore convenience and comfort, featuring a clean and well-stocked clubhouse pro shop with quality merchandise and rental equipment. The staff’s welcoming approach eases navigation through tee times and course setup, whether arriving early for daylight play or to savor lengthy photography breaks.
Golfers planning a visit should prepare for some walking on uneven terrain, particularly around the volcanic outcrops, and wear shoes with solid traction. Renting clubs onsite is a practical option for travelers who prefer to pack light. Amidst a scenic setting, Francis H. I’i Brown Courses offer a memorable blend of challenge and accessible play that suits those seeking a distinctive Hawaiian golf outing without a steep learning curve.

Played this fabulous course (South course) and played my personal best so far!!! I got 5 pars and made par on their signature par 3 hole that goes across ocean & lava to small island green. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition and scenery was enjoyable.

Most beautiful course I’ve ever golfed! The back 9 of the pro course was amazing, especially holes 15 & 16!

Got to play the Classic Course, first time on that layout in over 30 years. What a treat.

Played the South Course. Great range. The starter is laid back, firing off pairs and singles at will whenever they were ready. Had a 7:40 tee time on a Tuesday and gladly went off at 7:12. Only waited on the first hole. But, the cart gps systems were being rebooted our entire round, which prevented us from strategizing and confirming distances by utilizing the cart gps. Would be a five star rating if not for that.

I played the South Course as a single. I did not bring my clubs, as I had not expected to play, but after seeing the course and views I had to play it. The rented clubs were newer Taylor Made clubs. The clubhouse was clean, very well stocked with all sorts of clothing and accessories, and the staff was extremely friendly. I went around in just under four hours, mostly due to taking my time to take photos and enjoy the views. The ocean-side holes are epic. Just as beautiful and breathtaking as the photos suggest. The course was very well maintained, among the nicest condition courses I've ever played based on condition. The course is definitely a resort course - not overly challenging - but very enjoyable due to the conditions and views. Highly recommended golf experience!
