Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Savannas Preserve State Park offers a unique glimpse into Florida's natural environment with its diverse landscapes ranging from pine flatwoods to freshwater marshes. Located in St. Lucie and Martin counties along Florida's Atlantic coast, the park is a critical habitat for numerous plant and animal species, including the endangered Florida scrub jay and gopher tortoises. Established in 1978, the park protects over 6,000 acres of natural flora and fauna and features the state's largest freshwater marsh. Visitors can explore more than 15 miles of trails, ideal for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. It's also a paradise for bird watchers and anglers, with numerous water bodies perfect for fishing. The park's education center provides interpretive exhibits on local ecology and park history, making it an educational as well as recreational destination for families and solo travelers alike.
