Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Long Branch State Park is located in the west-central region of Missouri, surrounding the Long Branch Reservoir, a 2,000-acre lake created for flood control and water supply. The park encompasses over 2,500 acres of forested hills, open prairie, and shoreline that provide vital habitat for local wildlife. It was established in 1966 and operates as a popular destination for families, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking water-based recreation plus hiking and mountain biking trails. The reservoir supports bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill fishing, making it a favored fishing spot year-round. The park features campgrounds that accommodate RVs and tents, picnic areas, boating ramps, and a marina. Its trail system covers over 17 miles, winding through oak-hickory woodlands and rolling terrain, making it a scenic place for day hikes and mountain biking. The park is also a site for seasonal hunting and winter sports such as cross-country skiing when weather permits. Visitors often enjoy the quiet shoreline for birdwatching, with species like bald eagles and great blue herons frequently observed. The park's vicinity to the communities of Clinton, Windsor, and Clinton allows convenient access while offering a balance of natural setting and recreational amenities. Long Branch State Park provides a well-rounded outdoor experience with opportunities for water sports, land-based recreation, and relaxation, attracting visitors across all seasons.
