Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located on the shores of Lake Eufaula—the largest-capacity lake in Oklahoma—Lake Eufaula State Park spans over 1,700 acres of forested hills and shoreline. The park’s setting is defined by its blend of hardwood forests, open meadows, and the vast expanse of the lake, which covers approximately 102,000 acres. Created in the 1960s following the construction of the Walter F. George Lock and Dam on the Canadian River, the park has developed into a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts in eastern Oklahoma. Visitors enjoy a wide range of recreational activities including boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and camping. Lake Eufaula is known for excellent largemouth bass fishing, attracting anglers year-round. The park contains several well-maintained campgrounds and hiking trails that wind through the diverse habitats, where visitors often spot white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and numerous songbirds. Key landmarks include Selman Marina, the park’s central hub for boat rentals and fishing supplies, and the scenic perspectives overlooking the expansive lake waters. The park’s mix of water and land activities, combined with well-developed facilities, makes it a popular destination for families, anglers, and nature observers. Its location near several small towns adds accessibility while maintaining a peaceful natural environment.
