Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located in northeastern Montana, near the Canadian border, within the unique environment of the Prairie Pothole Region. The refuge comprises wetlands, grasslands, and seasonal lakes that are critical for waterfowl breeding and migration. Its name derives from the large, shallow natural lake called Medicine Lake, which supports a complex ecosystem including numerous species of ducks, geese, and other migratory birds.
