Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Wildcat Mountain State Park is located in Crawford County, Wisconsin, along the western border with the Mississippi River. The park encompasses steep limestone and sandstone bluffs rising above the river valleys, creating dramatic vistas and a variety of ecological zones. The park's terrain includes hardwood forests, oak savannas, and prairie remnants that provide habitat for diverse wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous bird species including migratory raptors. Established in 1948, the park preserves this unique area within the Driftless Region, known for its deeply carved valleys and lack of glacial flattening typical of much of the Midwest. Visitors to Wildcat Mountain State Park enjoy hiking on over 20 miles of trails ranging from easy riverside walks to challenging ridge hikes, including the acclaimed Badger and White Pine Trails.
