About Balmorhea State Park

Balmorhea State Park is home to one of the world's largest spring-fed swimming pools and offers a unique blend of aquatic recreation and desert beauty.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Balmorhea State Park, located in the arid landscape of West Texas, is a surprising oasis. Founded in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this park is best known for its enormous spring-fed swimming pool, which covers 1.3 acres and holds 3.5 million gallons of clear water. The pool is consistently fed by San Solomon Springs, making it an inviting location for swimming and scuba diving in the crystal-clear water. The park also features several hiking trails and picnic areas, allowing visitors to explore the unique ecosystem of the desert. Home to a variety of species, including the endangered Comanche Springs pupfish and Pecos gambusia, the park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Aside from its natural appeal, the park's structures offer a glimpse into the New Deal-era architecture. Its remote location ensures a serene atmosphere, perfect for stargazing under the vast Texas sky.
