Located near the city of Sioux Falls in eastern South Dakota, Dakota Territorial Capitol Recreation Area protects the site of the first territorial capitol building, erected in 1883. While the original structure no longer stands, the area features interpretive markers and remnants that provide insight into early Dakota Territory governance and pioneer life.
