Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Wulingyuan Scenic Area, located in the Hunan Province of China, is famous for its over 3,000 narrow sandstone pillars and peaks, many of which exceed 200 meters in height. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, this scenic area consists of four national parks: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Suoxiyu Valley, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, and Yangjiajie Scenic Area. The eroded landscape features deep ravines, idyllic streams, tranquil pools, cascading waterfalls, and over 40 caves, providing a haven for biodiversity including rare plant and animal species. The area is of significant cultural importance and a major draw for hikers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts, offering a network of trails, panoramic viewpoints, and cable car access to several peaks. Aside from natural wonders, travelers can also explore ancient villages and discover the rich cultural traditions of the Tujia and Miao ethnic groups.
