Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Semien Mountains National Park, located in northern Ethiopia, is renowned for its dramatic landscapes featuring jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys, and sheer cliffs as high as 1,500 meters. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including the endangered Ethiopian wolf, the Walia ibex, and the gelada baboon. Its rich ecological diversity is matched by its cultural history, with several small communities living within the park. Established in 1969, the park provides ample opportunities for trekking, with routes ranging from short hikes to extensive multi-day treks. Key landmarks in the area include Ras Dashen, the highest peak in Ethiopia, and the stunning views from Chenek and Imet Gogo. Visitors are often drawn to the park not only for its natural beauty but also for the opportunity to experience Ethiopia's unique highland culture.
