Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Secor Metropark spans over 480 acres of forested uplands, wetlands, and open fields along the Ottawa River, just north of Toledo, Ohio. The park features diverse ecosystems including hardwood forests and riparian habitats that provide a home for a variety of wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and numerous songbirds. Established in 1949 as part of the Toledo Metroparks system, Secor has since become a valued natural retreat within an urban setting. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a network of multi-use trails suitable for hiking, jogging, and mountain biking. The park is also equipped with two stocked fishing ponds, a playground area, picnic shelters, and scenic overlooks offering views of the surrounding woodlands and water bodies. A 0.9-mile paved trail runs through the park, making it accessible for walkers and cyclists of all skill levels. Seasonal programming and community events often take place in Secor, encouraging visitors to explore nature and connect with the environment. This park appeals to families, casual hikers, anglers, and anyone looking for a quick outdoor escape from the city. Its proximity to Toledo allows for convenient day trips, while the varied terrain supports a range of activities throughout the year.
