Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Fishing Lakes Provincial Park is located in southern Saskatchewan's picturesque Qu'Appelle Valley, comprising several connected bodies of water known collectively as the Fishing Lakes, including Pasqua, Echo, Mission, Crooked, and Round Lakes. The park encompasses shoreline and surrounding natural areas to protect the local ecosystem along these glacially-formed lakes. The park provides important habitat for a variety of fish species such as walleye, northern pike, and perch, making it a prime location for fishing enthusiasts. The park's landscape is characterized by rolling hills, mixed prairie, and groves of aspen and poplar trees, supporting diverse wildlife including waterfowl and deer. Historically, the lake system was significant for Indigenous peoples and early settlers in the region, contributing to transportation and sustenance. Visitors enjoy multiple campgrounds with lake access, picnic areas, and boat launches. Recreational activities popular here include angling, boating, hiking on informal trails along the shore, birdwatching, and in winter, ice fishing and snowmobiling. The park is a favored summer destination for families and anglers, providing a mix of rustic outdoor settings with easy access from nearby towns. The park’s connectivity between lakes enables multi-lake paddling trips and scenic viewpoints along the valley edges, appealing to nature lovers and outdoor adventurers alike.
