About this landmark
Scenic Waterfall at Robinson Falls, Logan, Ohio
Robinson Falls, located just outside Logan in Ohio’s Hocking Hills region, offers visitors a peaceful natural setting unlike many others in the area. This modest yet captivating waterfall stands out due to its distinctive moss-covered rock formations and calm pools where water gently cascades down. Unlike larger or more crowded waterfalls nearby, Robinson Falls provides a quieter, more intimate experience for those who appreciate subtle beauty in nature.
The waterfall is part of Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve, a less-visited area known for its dense hardwood forests and rich biodiversity. The cool waters flow over layered sandstone, a geological feature typical of this region, which shapes the small series of falls seen here. Surrounding the falls, visitors often notice native plant species and occasional sightings of local wildlife, making it an appealing spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts who want to connect with Ohio’s natural charm.
Robinson Falls is accessible via a short hiking trail, but visits require a permit obtained online in advance through the state’s nature preserve system. This controlled access helps preserve the fragile environment around the falls. While the waterfall’s flow can vary with the seasons, it retains a natural peacefulness year-round, transforming into a frozen scene of icy beauty in winter.
A recent fallen tree has partially obscured the view, adding a rustic element to the experience, and the nearby road crossing leads to a small parking area. Robinson Falls is ideal for visitors seeking a quiet retreat close to Logan, offering a gentle introduction to the area’s wilderness without the crowds typical of more famous parks.
