Why Weekday Mornings Only?

After years of taking guests to Raccoon Island, we’ve learned that early weekday mornings offer the best chance to see raccoons. On weekends and holidays, the island becomes a popular boating party spot, which can scare the raccoons into hiding. And during hot midday hours—especially in summer—they often retreat deep into the island’s shade, making sightings far less likely.

⚠️ What You Need to Know

The Island

  • This is an uninhabited, wild island in the middle of the bay. There ARE NO FACILITIES, no bathrooms, no docks. You must enter the water from the boat to walk ashore. Think of it as a hike on a deserted island. DRESS ACCORDINGLY and bring shoes capable of getting wet. Apply INSECT REPELLENT during summer months when mosquitos are active on the island.

Tour Times

  • We offer these trips based on the BEST time to see Raccoons on the island. Early mornings before other people arrive and on weekdays only when there are the least amount of people on the island.

Raccoon No-Shows

  • Raccoons are spotted on the island during the vast majority of our visits. However, they are wild animals in their natural habitat, so their behavior can vary. While they’re often curious and visible, we can’t guarantee they’ll come close or be active during your time on the island. On rare occasions, you may need to walk a bit to spot them, or you may not see any at all.

  • Please note: Because this is a wildlife experience, sightings are not guaranteed and refunds will not be issued based on raccoon activity.

Feeding Raccoons

  • Please be aware that feeding wild animals in Florida is prohibited by law. While our captains provide guidance on how best to find the animals and ensure a safe experience, we do not monitor or control individual actions on the island. Any interaction with wildlife, including feeding, is done at your own discretion and risk.
