About

Learn to skipper our 23-foot Sonar (named Liberty), a sloop-rigged keelboat, by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship, and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.

  • Class sizes are limited to 4 students
  • Students under age 18 must be accompanied by a paying legal guardian

What to Bring:

  • Head-to-toe rain gear–jacket, pants, head cover (i.e. hood/hat); unless winds are too high, we will sail rain or shine
  • Non-marring shoes (test the bottom of your shoes by rubbing them in your bathtub/shower; if they leave a mark, pick another pair)
  • Gloves (you don’t need official sailing gloves, but they should have leather palms to prevent personal injury)
  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses (lanyards to secure these may be helpful)
  • A bag lunch and plenty of fluids (no alcohol during training events)
  • A sense of humor and a lot of patience
