An incredible journey by bike through an area of the Hamakua Coast once dominated by Hawai`i’s sugar industry. Taking off from Botanical World Adventures located in Hakalau, this adventurous tour makes its way through a segment of the Old Mamalahoa Highway.
Surrounded by green rolling pastures and lush botanical scenery, this once well traveled road takes us back in time as we make our way through old plantation villages. These historic “backroads” take you over bridges from the early 1900’s. We pass by communities built up and brought down with the industry, and become mesmerized by the abundance of greenery. All while taking in the sights of pristine streams and waterfalls that cascade down from conservation land on the slopes of Mauna Kea.
