Shettihalli Rosary Church: A Glimpse into the Past
Located in the serene landscape of Hassan, Karnataka, the Shettihalli Rosary Church stands as an evocative relic of bygone eras. Built in the 1860s by the French missionaries, this Gothic-style church is unique for its splendid architecture and intriguing history. What truly sets it apart is its seasonal transformation; during the monsoon months, the Hemavathi River swells and partially submerges the church, creating a stunning sight—a ‘floating church’ that attracts photographers and history buffs alike.
The arched windows and ornate details of the structure, though in ruins, speak volumes about the craftsmanship of the past. The church's picturesque setting amidst lush greenery and the tranquil river backdrop make it a rewarding visit. Its deserted yet scenic ambiance offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking a blend of history and natural beauty.
While the architectural grandeur captivates during dry seasons, the monsoon brings life to its serene surroundings, making it a favored spot for birdwatching enthusiasts. Birds flock to the area, adding vibrant life to this historical site. Shettihalli Rosary Church is not just a monument; it’s a fusion of nature and history, making it a memorable sight for those traveling through Karnataka.
