About this landmark
Lahaina Pali Trail offers an exceptional outdoor experience on the island of Maui, Hawaii, presenting panoramic views and striking natural features that define this rugged landscape. Located near the town of Wailuku in central Maui, the trail covers mountainous terrain that overlooks the western coastline and the vast Pacific Ocean beyond. This hiking route is distinguished by its volcanic ridge crest and dry forest ecosystems, creating a fascinating contrast between lushness below and the arid, brush-covered heights. The trail follows an ancient Hawaiian pathway with historical significance, once used for inter-island travel and access to mountain villages. Hikers encounter native flora such as ʻōhiʻa lehua trees and silversword plants which are notable for their adaptation to Maui’s unique environment. Along the way, the landscape features rocky outcrops and sweeping views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai on clear days. The exposed volcanic soil and jagged lava rock formations add geological interest, highlighting the island’s volcanic origins. This trail stands out as a natural vantage point to experience Maui’s varied topography, where the blend of arid ridge lines and ocean views creates a memorable experience that contrasts with the island’s more common tropical scenery.
