Majestic Waterfall Adventure at Escondido Falls

Waterfall Escape: Escondido Falls in Malibu

Escondido Falls, located in Malibu, California, is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Santa Monica Mountains and a favored destination for outdoor lovers. This remarkable natural site features a two-tier waterfall: the easily accessible lower falls and the captivating upper falls, which drops nearly 150 feet. The waterfall is surrounded by vibrant greenery, including native sycamores, oaks, and seasonal wildflowers that bring the canyon to life throughout the year.

The hike to the falls begins on the Escondido Canyon Trail, a gently rising path that crosses several clear streams and charming ponds, making the journey refreshing and scenic. Hikers often enjoy the shaded walk beneath a canopy of trees, which keeps temperatures comfortable even on sunny days. The rocky sandstone cliffs and sandy creek beds highlight the geology of the area, reflecting the natural forces that have shaped Malibu’s rugged coastline and inland terrain.

Escondido Falls offers visitors a blend of natural beauty and tranquility that stands out in the Los Angeles region. Its two waterfalls provide different experiences—while the lower falls are popular for a short visit, reaching the upper falls is a rewarding challenge for those prepared to continue a bit further. Wildlife sightings are common here, with birds and small animals active in the lush canyon. This spot remains a favorite for both locals and visitors seeking a peaceful outdoor retreat with photo-worthy views and splash-worthy pools.
